Carl350z
Hi everyone, I think I have a possible major issue with my new car ! When being driven hard! Change from 3rd to 4th is horrible it either crunches in or you have hold the clutch for .5secs before hitting forth. Anybody experienced this? Thanks
Gonzo88
Get the synchro checked... Is it definitely the gearbox? Not the clutch slipping?
ZMANALEX
I take it that is half a second and not 5 seconds? Depending on the age and mileage of your car then half is second is not unusual. Just drive with a bit more mechanical sympathy and adjust your driving style to compensate for the gearbox wear so that it does not crunch between shifts. Alex. KyleR
Quite common, mine does it from time to time into 6th. It's the synchromesh and it needs replaced, £500 upwards

cs2000
500-750 depending on age of the replacement box. Mine does the same into 6th
The Chubby Ninja
alright cool, the OP might aswell change the gearbox but its not to say the new one will do the same 6 months down the line
marzman
An awful lot of zeds suffer from crunching gears (mine included). 1. Replace the gearbox oil and add Molyslip. (PM ZMANALEX for the correct fluids). 2. Double clutch gear change on the affected gears. i.e. on my car from 2nd to third, i press the clutch, change from 2nd to neutral, release the clutch and press it again, and change into third. You get used to it in no time (and from habit i now do it when driving other cars too!)
