Stevebetts
Got stuck in slow moving traffic today for around 20 mins. Next thing I knew steam was pouring from under the bonnet. Looked down at my temp gauge and it was in the red. I hurriedly pulled up and popped the bonnet to see the expansion tank looking like a boiling kettle. It seems the fans are not coming on. Spoke to the previous owner today to see if had similar issues. It seems it went back to nissan under his warrantee for the same reason in January of this year. They replaced the thermostat sensor and said all was good. Got it booked in at nissan next Tuesday and the work should still be guaranteed. Will not be happy if its not!

Stevebetts
Car went to Nissan today. They phoned me late this afternoon to say it is a wiring problem. They need the car tomorrow too and assuming they don't find anything else, the cost is £225. Lets see what tomorrow brings......

Stevebetts
unbelievable!!!!! Nissan phone me back today to say its the fans that have failed. We can fix that for you for £1050 sir! I obviously told them no way. She then says, well you still have to pay the £225. What the hell for i say. For the diagnosis of the problem. Yesterday i was told the following: 1. £80 for diagnosis. 2. wiring problem found, cost £225 to fix wiring fault. Today they deny this and say the £225 was to continue the diagnosis! they spent 5 hours diagnosing!!! I diagnosed the fan issue with the AA test in a couple of minutes. I have now logged complaint with Nissan customer services. I have also pointed out fan failure is a known issue and i expect Nissan to replace them FOC (I can wish cant I). This is my first dealing with Nissan and i cant say im impressed. I will keep you posted.

Wasso
A fair few people have had issues with Nissan dealers. One guy (Nissan-Pip) was charged well over £1k for new Lambda sensors and man hours. Problem didn't go away. Advised he goes direct to CS, problem found cracks in the Cats. Problem fixed. Simple, go to a recommended trader on here. Otherwise it'll cost you an arm and a leg. Stevebetts
CS have been back to me. They are backing the dealer (supprise supprise). They also deny any known issue with the fan motors. I have to pay £225 to get my car back in the same state as i left it. What a bunch of robbing B*****ds!
Ebized
Certainly not an uncommon issue, and yes as others are saying most Nissan dealers don't know our cars well enough to know the 'regular' problems and how to sort them. that is why you are ALWAYS beter off going to a good specialist. Those who 'trade' on here are ones where we have had good feedback, in the main. The messers/cowboys are quickly dumped, as this forum is about looking after its members first and foremost. I think you are extremely optimistic about any goodwill gesture out of Nissan especially on a 6+year old 350, but then you knew that. Having wrapped your knuckles (sorry ) have a look at these 2 threads for some useful info http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/70988-radiator-fans-not-working-properlyoverheating/page__hl__fans http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/49013-radiator-fan-replacement-outside-of-warranty/page__hl__fans
Stevebetts
Ebized. I know I may have been optimistic, but it really cheeses me off when there is a known issue and the manufacturers bury their head in the sand and tell dealers to say "no, we've never heard of that before". The techs at Nissan Derby that worked on my car are in my opinion poor to say the least. They told me complete rubbish until I pushed them. I am an engineer and when they tell me it's not possible to test the cooling motors directly, I know I am being bullshitted. As soon as they realised I know a bit about engines and test procedures they started changing their story about the results of their diagnostics. On that note, does anyone have a good garage to take my car to in future in the Alfreton/Derbyshire area?
jell36
Go to Cougar Store in Leicester, they're decent and certainly don't rip you off. I'm based in Nottingham and they are the best I have found locally.
jell36
Also Bennett (GT4Zed) is selling some OEM fans in the for sale section at the moment for £75 and I think Cougar store charge around £50 p/h for labour so you could get the whole job done for around £175 which is cheaper than the Nissan diagnostics alone. Ebized
I think CS (Cougar Store) in your neck of the woods would be your best bet - they are in Leicester and very well respected. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/49325-cs-cougar-store-appreciation-thread/

Stevebetts
Thanks for the heads up on CS. I'm going to strip and clean the motors and hopefully they will work. If not, I will get the Mishimotos from Alex.

Stevebetts
Assembly all fitted back in place. Fans work fine. Can't wait to speak to the service manager at Nissan derby on Wednesday. Hope I can get some of the rip off charge back.
bronzee
they spent 5 hours diagnosing!!! I diagnosed the fan issue with the AA test in a couple of minutes. Perhaps they need to go back to mechanics 101. Dear oh dear. Only takes a second either looking or listening for the spinning fans or not.

Gonzo88
It's sad when you can even trust a main dealer. Good to hear you got it sorted yourself in the end!
Stevebetts
It is sad. My car has full Nissan service history and I planned to keep it up. I will most certainly not be taking it to Nissan now. I will sort it out at CS in future.
