Admiral mate Sky have good customer service and by all means worth a try however they didnt come close to my admiral quote of £613.00 for 10 months 3 years NCB and 25. Sky insurance were double this but that is due to my experience of driving a high performance vehicle (I also got mine in October 2012). Dont takew the first price admiral give you either they are known to be one of top 10 companies in the UK to barter/drop their prices if challenged

Only if you actually are the second driver on it. Google 'fronting' for why declaring you are if you are not is a bad idea.

Do a Gocomparethesupermeekat search, then check the specialist insurance traders on here. :)

You cannot go by what anyone else says is cheap as everyone has a different risk.

You can listen to customer service recommendations though.

Compare on moneysupermarket, compare the market and gocompare. Then ring all the insurance companies associated with the club.

Livingstone warnman

Sky

Prestige

Etc...

Livingstone warnman and sky have excellent customer service and a great deal of knowledge about these cars.

Feel free to check back when you are up for renewal. We've had issues in the past with younger drivers with no RWD experience having high value claims, specifically on 350Z's but after a year claim free of having the Zed, we should be competitive.

I work in technical claims for an insurance company

We have the Zed and 2005 Astra SRI 200bhp. Me and my wife are both over 35 (unfortunately) and full NCD, No points and are paying approx £1000 for both cars, works out £500 each which beat the company I work for massively even including my staff discount.

Problem is alot of insurers tend to "specialise" in certain risks as well be it p/code or driver criterea i.e just because Admiral were competitive for us they may not be for a "younger" driver or someone in a different p/code. Keeping your car in a garage over night does make a difference so if you can then do.

Be warned (as been mentioned) of adding another driver just to reduce your premiums or telling your insurer things that aren't true. It could back-fire big style.

Best tip is to shop around. When you get a price do ask if you pay monthly exactly what the interest is with this form of payment and exactly how much you will pay over the year paying this way as you can easily be paying an additional 15% for the convenience. It may pay (no pun intended) you to pay by credit card in one go and then pay it off in a couple of chunks, can save you £100 or more there.

Try insurers who specialise in a certain vehicle is a good idea as has also been mentioned.

Remember though that you only find out how good an insurer is when you claim so it's about striking that happy medium that you are comfortable with between price and service.

I must confess I hadn't heard of Sky Insurance but will definately be checking them out come renewal time.

Hope this helps

Oh and I would advise checking both your car insurance and your home insurance regarding keeping possessions in cars. Most car insurance policies do not give you much cover here and so your home insurance may pick this up if the unfortunate should happen. So check the amount of cover you have with both. Also (and this is extremely important) most insurers will place criterea on possessions left in cars - some will say items just need to kept out of sight, others will stipulate out of sight and in a locked compartment. This can mean the difference between the GF's or wife's handbag (or your own) kept tucked nicely away in the cubby behind the passenger seat may be covered with some insurers and not others depending on whether you locked the cubby or not - and those Ray Bans you keep in the flip-down sunglasses holder again not covered with some insurers, or your phone if it's in the slidey thing behind the handbrake lever.

Pays to think of these things before rather than after the event.

I just insured my one as I have only just got it, Admiral were by far the cheapest, but mine is not an import.

Do a 'gocompare' search with your details, see what comes up. A lot depends on where you live and if its garaged etc. The guy I bought the car off was the same age and NCB as me but had been paying £500 more than I am, mainly because of location and non garaging.

There are too many little things that add up.

Good luck!

I always shop around - just use the comparison websites. I also got quotes from the "specialist" insurers only to find that in my case they were a LOT more expensive.

I was staggered when I got my first quote. For someone nearly 40, with 20 years NCB, a long history of high performance cars & motorbikes I was being quoted over £1000 for my zed. Compared to about £500 for an M3 / Scooby WRX and £450 for a lambo gallardo. Go figure.

I added my pensioner age parents to the policy, said I parked the car on the road rather than in my drive and managed to get the premium down to £900.

Year 2 renewal came in at £650, so it might just have been insurance companies being nervous in year 1.
