So I'm looking for a more portable tablet type thing that I can surf the net store and play my music read books. Must have Bluetooth and wifi. As the 2 are not very compatible i sold my ipad 2 and bought a samsung galaxy tab. Kept it for 1 day then returned it, utter gash!!! I then went straight to curry's and bought an ipad 4 and a mini for the wife. Both the ipad 4 and mini are awesome, but i really dont see how the ipad 4 is better than the ipad 2. I know the screen is better blah, blah, blah but i really dont notice it. If you want my advice get any ipad, all other tablets are simply imitations! Also i feel it is very secure for online banking etc. I'm sure others will be alone to tell you about there nexus etc, but as i said before there nothing like an ipad! However for what you want I don't think its right, sounds like you want a cheap web browsing tablet. Sony make a good tab, that Lenovo looks a bargain. Motorola not bad either. Same with Samsung. He wants cheap indestructible for the missus internet browser. Store play music and read books. I'd be tempted to say look at the kindle fire hd. Or the Google nexus. I sold mine one year old perfect condition for next to nothing! TBH all i use my ipad for is FB, youtube, youporn, xnxx and here and its ideal! And it made sense to get just the RT version. Which I'm on now. And I can't fault it. But then I love it because it isn't apple. Not because apple aren't good, its just I'm not an apple fan. My wife has apple everything, and she loves it. I've tried it and its not for me. But I won't slag one thing off over another just because I don't like it. Stutopia Posted April 20, 2013 Share Posted April 20, 2013 I have an iPad 3 and a Nexus 7 (which I bought mainly for my folks). The iPad is simply brilliant, especially as it synchs beautifully with my iPhone and iMac. As stated before, it's not the budget choice, although the iPad Mini is well priced (for apple) but I'd really want a retina display. However, I was really impressed by the Nexus 7. It is a straight google tablet so you get all the updates straight through, no waiting for your manufacturer to catch up, or stupid skins getting in the way (my main bug about android). The screen is beautiful, size is great, it's light, fast, decent battery time and it's ridiculously cheap. My folks don't have any problems using it either. For me, if I ever strayed from apple I'd go Nexus 7 or possibly (if budget fits) Nexus 10 for the extra inches. Not used one but reviewed well and if the Nexus 7 is anything to go by, it'll be a great device. In short, go iPad if budget permits, Nexus 7 if it doesn't. IMHO. I got so much @*!# in my life that i really don't need. I'm a marketing executive's wet dream. I've got iPad, iPad mini, itouch blah blah all hooked up to the iCloud thing. In reality all i ever use is my galaxy s3. Also just gave away my desktop to a family member because it only gets turned on to update it, lol. Decent selection and reasonable price? I really quite like the look of the surface on TV but not handled one yet. There's rumours their making a compact size tablet soon too. But on the rt tab I spend 99% of my time in the multi tile screen. Its different, it has different swipes. Take the time to learn it and its a rewarding platform. But if you're expecting easy win7 use out of the box, you might not like it. Its a platform and tablet that's worth persevering with. Fine for tablet/touch, but on desktop why not let you disable metro and have proper start menu? I'm not convinced by touchscreen desktops, too far to reach! rtbiscuit Posted April 20, 2013 Share Posted April 20, 2013 As for the app store there are some good apps coming through, some are a little Richey, but I only ever download free ones regardless of platform, be it windows, apple or android. Its still new and its still unknown so it will take a while. Things I miss that I can get on android: links to my sky box, OBDII APP, app for my pioneer amp, that's all I can think of. Yes apple apple and android have billions of apps, but most of them you'd never use anyway. To put it into perspective, my school are looking at rolling out tablets across the school for students. The initial idea was ipads. The head technician asked me to bring my surface in to have a look at it. And even he said it was far more suitable than the iPad. But that's because the school network is mainly win based. But the fact it has office as standard, a full size USB port and a micro SD slot as well makes it very versatile.where in the uk are you, if your local, your more than welcome to come over and have a look.
