Health care

Does anyone on here have private health care? I've got to renew mine and the options are to say the least confusing.

Got a better quote (on the face of it) from Axa over Pru but Pru are saying Axa's policy will be restricted.

Just wondered if anyone has an opinion or even better direct knowledge??

We're with Pru Health at work, and our policy is excellent. It might not be the cheapest, but they certainly cover everything and are a pleasure to deal with over the phone.

They're who I claimed through when I had my back operation last year, and that was as smooth as I could've hoped for.

Make sure you double check the underwriting carefully, you don't want to base your decision based on price if the cheaper policy offers worse underwriting and you find previous medical conditions are excluded.

I have some knowledge on Aviva's products but don't know much about their pricing.

Im also with Pru through work. I have a dislike of them personally but probably as an isolated case... i couldnt comment on their suitability over anyone else.

Our work healthcare was with Standard Life, and whilst i was literally in the hospital undergoing spinal surgery our company moved to Pru. They then proceeded to refuse to pay for any of my treatment as they said they would not have approved it in the first place, so i had to get our HR team involved to fight on my behalf as otherwise i'd have been lumped with a £7k bill.

In the end they paid it, but i had to pay £100 excess on it which pi**ed me off.

Cheers chaps, its the underwriting that's concerning me. Pru are telling me Axa put price restrictions on treatments, which Axa have acknowledged but have said I'll be covered in full for all hospitals in my local area.

I guess what I'm worried about is something like, say I have a heart problem, best option is for me to go Addenbrooks (as an example) but they don't cover me and I get a less specialised consultant. If that makes sense.

Obvioulsy I want the best cover I can afford for me and my family!

Silly question, but what does the Axa paperwork actually say? Check the details out on that (ignore whatever Pru are saying and even Axa over the phone), because that's the contract you're signing up to. If you have any questions, get the answers in writing from Axa.

It's all in writing it's just confusing!

I now have a side by side summary, which is a little cleared but with terminology slightly different.

Wish it was all standardised really.

This. Of course they will tell you the competition isnt as good, they want to win your business. Get the details from both sides and see what they do and dont cover. After all how do they know what level of cover you are looking at from the other side?

At work we're with Pru and we found them pretty helpful. When Amanda needed a bit of physio, her GP refused to refer her at first, so Pru stepped in and made it happen.
