deank93
Clio V6....lovely cars and i nearly got one instead of the zed. I'm not going down the older daily runner route again, it was fine up until now for me as my wife had a company car so we were only paying running costs on 2 cars but she has now changed her job and we pick up her spanky new Fiesta on Saturday and I don't want the expense of 3 cars so the daily driver Passatt will be up for sale very soon....I might stick it on here first to see if anyone is interested in a bloody good 1k runner. The 370 really does tick a lot of boxes for me...but...if i spent 18k on one, which would be the very top of my budget I'd find myself in that position where i'm looking at an uprev, exhaust, berks and so on which I wouldn't realistically be able to afford, where as if I kept the HR I could get it nigh on exactly how I'd want it....but then it is a 5 year old 350 and not a newer 370. Jay
So you buy a 370z that already has an exhaust and stillen induction unit

Ekona
So what's the actual budget then? And how are fixed for running costs (fuel, tax, insurance, servicing), and what about a slush fund for if something goes really wrong?
kiingsi
No doubt about it go for a e92 m3. Or if you don't fancy them a Porsche turbo but the inside us abit dated

deank93
If I were to opt for a replacement car over beefing up the 350 i'd push to 18k. In terms of fuel I am very lucky in that I don't have to put my hand in my pocket, part of the appeal of the zed is long service intervals and cheap service costs, tax I pay £500 odd a year as it is and will 'happily' keep paying it if it means having a nicer car....if the insurance and running costs on a 370 are on a par with the 350 that would be nice. The general view seems to be that most would chop in the Zed for something else rather than invest in some go faster bits and a bit of styling. Agreed on the porker, some models do look quite dated inside.

Jay
Lexx went from his 350z into a vxr8, so maybe send him a wee pm!
Ekona
If you don't have a slush fund, don't get a Porker with a water-cooled non-DFi engine. You've a 5-10% chance of IMS failure, which means a 5-10K repair bill. I'd buy an Elise, even if it was only for a year just to say I'd done it. Every petrolhead should own one at least once in their lives.

deank93
Poor old Vauxhall, they do get a tough rap over the badge despite making some classics....then again, for some reason people still sneer if you mention you drive a Nissan....usually car retarded fools. JetSet
I'd really like a Cayman S but in reality I'd probably get something with a bit more room. Since I donated the Clio to my daughter I'm finding that having 2 sports cars is a bit restrictive at times. Pete

Not just the badge in Vauxhall's case though. Being on a corsa forum previously, ive seen untold numbers of mechanical issues and poor dealership experiences The VX specialists ain't all that fab either from my readings
NeilMH
If I think about it rationally (a first) I struggle to think of what I would now change to - for every upside there would be one or more downsides. The Zed is a really good all rounder that can be maintained at reasonable cost, is fairly rare, sounds good, goes pretty well and is easy to live with. If I hadn't the Alfas, Caterhams or the Elise I would have always wanted one of those at some point I had yearned for a Caterham (Lotus 7 as it then was) from about 1966...but I've got that out of my system now. Budget is a big factor for me. Bar one they were £10k or a lot less.... but crucially I have been lucky from a reliability point of view. If money and sense and life expectancy was no object I would want a 6R4 built to tarmac rally spec.
rabbitstew
Didn't EVO magazine recently say that they prefered the HR to the 370?? I certainly did. I found the HR 350z actually felt quicker & more exciting to drive. I also preferred the looks of the 350z. Has anyone moved from a zed to a Monaro/VXR8?? i'd be interested in hearing of anyones take on that. I test drove a Monaro V8 whilst I was in Australia as a mates friend had one and happily lent me the keys. Have to say I wasnt too impressed with that either. Certainly nice soundtrack, but the v8 was a bit of a lazy drive compared to the 7500rpm screaming v6 the HR 350z had. It felt slower and heavier. I likened it to comparing my HR to my 123d really without the v8 noise. Love the Elise, S1 or S2?? or surely a VX220 turbo, whip it of to courtney for 295bhp and leave everything for dead! The VX220 turbo is quite a bit more expensive. Ive been keeping an eye on elises and vx220`s for the last 12 months and you can pick up an elise or vx220 for about 5 or 6k now. But the vx220 turbo`s are 11k upwards. You can stick astra vxr bits on them and get a lot more power out of them. Also, a big problem now elises & vx220`s are getting on a bit, is that any slight bump writes them off due to the cost of the clams. So theres a lot of cat c & d ones out there. Still, if one comes along at the right price i`ll be on it as quick as a flash still. Edited March 21, 2013 by rabbitstew
Jay
I think that is because the 350z is more raw and you feel every bump etc etc. However the 370z is more sophisticated in its approach and has better technology inside it. I had my 350z before I upgraded to the 370z and I thought the same, however you will just have to trust me, the 370z is much quicker! When i looked at it you were looking at 10k for an LS2 drive in and out.

I wonder if because we have zeds parked outside if we don't forget that they are a great car in their own right, it's when i remind myself of that I think i've not got it at all bad....they look great, sound nice, go well and are cheap to run...it's when i have these reality checks that I think I should tweek the Zed and get it just how I want it.
