Sorry but for me a Beemer just doesn't cut the mustard.

If I had to select a Beemer to drive it would have to be an old classic, maybe the original 3 series and that's about it.

I'll always love the aura which the Z breed provides. In fact the Nissan brand has inspired me for an older Z, such as the 2's or even a skyline which I used to hate and thought were ugly. But since knowing more about their heritage I've changed my train of thought and very much admire the path Nissan have taken with their sports cars.

Right now switch to the M3...... What's different between them all, not a great deal really.

I don't hate BMW but feel their cars in today's world just look drab and uncharacteristic.

Mercedes on the other hand with their outrageous black series, the SLS, SLR, that shows you exactly why BMW are like a wet fart.

Audi, hmmmm well, again drab. The R8 is okay, but nothing if put on my millionaires car list.

If I won the lottery I would still keep my Zed.....

Right.....time for another pint! *waiter*!

A remapped 335d has more torque than a m5! But lacks the allure. I just hate the way diesels pull you up to a certain speed in a certain gear. I hate driving 2 gears lower than what i want to be in.

Nothing nicer than sitting in 5th gear doing 30mph and not having to change down to take a round about. My 123d that i had in 2009 would pull me up to 40mph in 5th gear withoit using the gas pedal! Hated it because of that.

I was thinking along the lines of an XKR, but my problem is they don't seem to have a XKRMANALEX when it all goes wrong

Seriously though, anyone know of fragility issues? (Sorry for the thread hijack)

Pretty bullet proof the new ones. All the issues seem to be with my age xkr lol. And there are xkr specialists very good as well

That's all fair and well having the "power", but with a Beemer you just blend in with the other traffic, such as a yaris or scenic etc.

The Zed brings a look from others, whether stationary, pooling at 60 or feeling frugal with the go pedal.

There's not many cars on today's roads that gets the looks the Zed receives. I'd never downgrade to a Beemer and that's how I look at it.

The Z has passion, history, the looks and curves, the luxury mods and for a fair price too. Then there's the forum, are we seriosuly thinking any Beemer forum would compare to this.

This is why the Zed would hold pride on the über cool wall

Nuff said.

Agreed, for me the Z is unusable in the week due to the mileage I do, fuel gets eaten .. but will return to the Z in the future, beautiful machine, for now its the BMW badge for me

I do 600-1000 miles a week in my Zed and think its wonderful :)

+1

Furthermore, if you're lucky enough, at the right time and place in your Zed, you too may be lucky enough to have a passer by point at you shouting

........"THAT MAN'S GOT A WASSO!!!"

You'll NEVER get that pleasure in ANY Beemer

a 330D .... Noooo, don't do it. Engine might be good and it might pull but...do you really wanna look like a rep lol You'd need more hands to count the other similar looking 3series that pass you on a daily basis. And I'm not just being Zedist, it could've been another car you were after but a 3series...well most BMW..are a bit dull and unless your a hardcore geek, no one knows the difference between your M3 saloon, your 330D or your boggo 318. They might notice it has better alloys...oooh. lol Honestly if your changing the Zed find something nicer! :)

If I was getting a diesel, I'd get a 330d, can't take car choice advice from people on here they all drive Nissans  if you like the car buy it, you're the one who has to drive it. And the inside of a bmw is not a bad place to be.

Lol whoops I think I've offended a bit to many zed heads, I guess what I found appealing with the Beemer is the fact I'm not lucky enough to be able to afford two cars and it can be quite frustrating only having two seats, and the 330d was just as quick as my zed up to 100mph if not quicker after that my zed would start to crawl back but in reality who travels at 100mph+ daily? Lol also it achieves 45mpg! That's roughly 40-50% more efficient than our 3.5 lumps. Besides ill probz just keep my zed but still I guess I was just very impressed :-)

When I came to replacing the Z (wanted something bigger and more economical) getting a BMW was the last thing on my mind, but ended up with a 335i because nothing else ticked all the boxes. Spent about 4 weekends visting random car dealerships and looked at just about everything on the market.

1) Megane/Focus RS: Decent enough cars but horrible interiors and generally felt really badly put together (Megane in particular). If I was 20 I would love one, but not anymore.

2) Evo/Impreza: Again horrible interiors, but main problem was rubbish MPG and needing lots of servicing (and wife said no way) .

3) Infiniti: Not really a "step up" from the Z, same engine but heavier and more expensive to buy.

4) Lexus: The ISF was the only option, but too bad on fuel.

5) Mercedes: My parents in law has one, and just about every well off old person I know has one. Only the proper AMG ones worth looking at but again too bad on fuel.

6) VW: Golf R, very nice, nearly bought one, but luckly realised at last minute spending £32K on a Golf was crazy money.

7) Alfa: All looks lovely, but none were very fast or efficent.

8) Audi: Just about as common as BMWs, S4 looked very nice, could just about afford one....booked into Audi dealer to have a look

....but whilst looking at reviews for the S4 the BMW 335i kept on been mentioned. Looked on Autotrader/Pistonheads, found a 335i that cost £10K less than a similar spec S4 and bought it over the phone :teeth:. Nearly 2 years on I don't really miss the Z, the Z is definalty still the most attention attractive car I've owned, but 335 suits my needs perfectly.

I had one of these up my chuff last weekend on the A1, with some middle aged lady driving it. When I say up my chuff, I mean in that typical "I'm in a beemer, you will move out of my lane" kind of way. Well, I booted it all of the way up to a speed which is best left to the imagination, and I didn't pull much of a distance on it at all. I let her past (she looked a right misery as well), and that's when I spied the 330d badge.

I'm having to sell the Zed (too much to run) and thought of one of these, but I reckon it'll be susceptible to the "bork" (i.e. be unreliable).

I had a play with a 123D the other week when I was in the Impreza. Let's just say that we were absolutely dead level in a straight line, and the Impreza is running 320bhp...

It gave me a whole new respect for these diesel lumps. They may lack character, but jebus are they exceptionally rapid.

Which is why i swapped my zed for a 123d. You can get 270bhp out of them apparently with just a remap. :)

For me, I wanted something rare but not something which stands out. In 18 months of having my 313 roadster I saw about 2 others, so that was pretty rare. In 8 months of 123d ownership, ive not seen a single other 123d, let alone a 123d coupe like my one is.

Loads of 118d`s and 120d`d out there though. Sure, they do all look the same nearly until you see the badge. And initially for me, it did feel weird having a car which blended in! A car which people didnt point at or come over and say "wow, nice car" etc. But then again, im quite enjoying it, the old wolf in sheeps clothing thing i guess.

Only earlier on in the week, I was sitting at some traffic lights and heard some tyres squealing I looked and saw some lad in a Focus ST beside me flooring it off. I put my foot down and out accelerated him up to the speed limit before I pulled over and let him past. He was more than surprised.

Sure, the 123d isnt cheap. Looking at current prices I could have bought a 997 and a boxster for the weekend and still had change. Still, im looking forward to remapping mine when its out of warranty and am enjoying the "stealthness" atm.

wtf, disel bmw?! LOOOOOL

don't care how many remaps you do to that, it will still sound like a bus!

I'm with him. Every other car on the motorway is a 320d these days, and a couple of different numbers on the badge doesn't make it any more desirable.

Never has the sentence Omg i need a... ever finished with an oil burning rep mobile. OMG i need a poo sounds like a more fitting title!

I can understand buying one of these if you do a lot of miles and want roll-on acceleration, but I have never been in a car with an exiting diesil engine. They're just so unrewarding. their lack of revability(?) is like the guy who empies his load just as the sex is getting going.
