mattfinch
Hi all I was just wondering is there any way you can turn the headlight washers of when you wash the windscreen with the lights on. It is very annoying when you have washed the car and driving along the road and you need to clean the windscreen and then the headlight washers spray the whole car lol. Or would I need to just whip of the bumper and disconnect it from there, Many thanks

mattfinch
Thanks mate, Looks like its a case off just disconnecting them so they don't work
AliveBoy
You'll need them for the MOT, I'm taking mine off sometime but then I'll reconnect them come mot time
mattfinch
Ok mate thanks for that, I don't mind unplugging it once a year.
Mikesding
I do find this a bit annoying - they shouldnt activate until 40-50mph or something, as under that speed they spray your entire car and the one behind you in foamy goodness
HaydnH
I had my car detailed a couple of years ago and then took it for an MOT the next day... I wasn't best pleased when the tester sprayed crap all over my bonnet... don't think I've told Tim@Envy about that yet. Shhhhh.
The Chubby Ninja
i had forgot about the light washers and went to clear my windscreen, it sprayed the whole car with screenwash and the cop car behind me . i then got pulled over for a "random" stop and search. They checked all my tyres and had all the cubby holes open. luckily i knew my car was ok as it had just been through its MOT the day before. thank god they didnt check the cats
JetSet
Funnily enough, I'd never used screenwash until a couple of years ago, just plain water with some IPA added in the winter. Pete
The Chubby Ninja
whats IPA? we used to use just water in the van but it was terrible
Jmanji
Dam, just filled my washer bottle with a very good quality screen wash, it's got alcohol to stop it freezing, wonder if this will be bad for the paint, did not know they were even there till I pressed the button thinking it was fog lamps whilst checking out the new z, bloody soaked the whole car, smells nice. JetSet
whats IPA? we used to use just water in the van but it was terrible Iso propyl alcohol, used to be the main ingredient in washer anti-freeze and it wont go solid till at least -50. It meant that the washer bottle and pipes never froze and maybe more importantly that none of the pipes split or came away in the headlining . It does evaporate at the nozzles but it's relatively easy to unfreeze it. Pete
The Chubby Ninja
that sounds pretty handy stuff. theres nothing more annoying than a dirty windscreen that you cant clean. will it damage the paintwork though?
ilogikal1
No, especially if it's diluted. It will strip any wax/sealant on the paintwork though.
The Chubby Ninja
Il stay well clear then lol
JetSet
I used to use it at no more than 20%. It won't damage anything on the body but at very high concentrations will eventually perish your wiper blades. Pete
Jmanji
I use it on my work van neat and I have to say its a pleasure to use and gives a very clear windscreen as well you get a blast of lemon through the air vents, makes you squirt just for the smell. AliveBoy
I was getting out of the car to fill up once, forgot to push the flap release so lent back in to push it and got the wrong button. Hey presto, me getting a face full of screen wash and the pump attendant creased over laughing. Funnily though, I've never forgotten to push the button whilst I'm still in the car since!

WhackyWill
Lots of posts on here about headlight washers..could not agree more they are a pain in the ass several times I had to clean the car again, covered in streaky washer fluid, They will only work with the lights on, must be a way of bye passing them. :scare:

mattfinch
I will have a look and see if I can make it so they only work when you press the button under the steering wheel, If not ill just unplug it from the motor for now and reconnect it for the MOT
AMT
Would LOVE some sort of button to stop them.
