Seabee
OK guys I'm looking to get a dashcam for my zed as where I live nobody can drive, my mother recently had a woman turn into her on a roundabout and even though she admitted liability at the time as soon as she got home she started saying it was my mum at fault. Anyhows the claim went 50/50 but I've been thinking just to cover my ass what's a good dash cam for the zed? I ideally I want it to have good night vision and be discrete, does anyone know the best place to mount one also? Any responces are appreciated cheers

Av8er
If you're looking for a camera that will be proof in an accident, I'd look at something like a roadhawk. The top end models will record all of the telemetry of the car and display it in a sort of HUD on the video playback. They're not exactly small, but they are very good at the job. Alternatively, you could just mount a GoPro on your dashboard, although data storage and battery life may be an issue for long journeys. There is also a iPhone application that records on a continuous loop, you can mount it in a holder with a charger cable from the cig lighter, my dad uses this one, the videos are pretty good quality in fairness, and again, that can measure your speed if the GPS is enabled. AMT
I bought a £20 off japan ages ago, simple but does the business, qualities not bad either. Just fumble about ebay to find one, check youtube for a review. It does loop after so many hrs recorded though, so if you have an accident, make sure you stop the video after it lol I never have mine in the car tho, bought it as a novelty
4RE Leather
You need one with both forward and rear facing cameras. A large proportion of prangs are rear end shunts. You need to be able to identify the culprit. Also if you hard wire them like I have, every time the ignition is turned on it records whats going on outside or who ever is behind the wheel at the time. I sat through 16 hrs of playback in January as I needed to find something. Mine had recorded everything from August onwards. I found what I was looking for and a whole lot more! It was on ebay but I can't find it. Make sure you put a fast card in of 8 or above for quality pictures. 32mg card will give a good 3-4 months of driving. The Bounty Bar Kid
£18 for a simple camera which is for reversing isn't bad. I wouldn't call that cheap. Cheap would be less than a tenner.
Arran
Could one of these cameras hook up to an aftermarket headunit that has capability for a camera input? Much like the alpine does with a rear view reversing camera, Instead of buying one of those you could buy one of these cameras?
The Bounty Bar Kid
Not the newer ones I believe. They are all about watching it on your PC via the memory card or WiFi.
