andy james
A few months ago someone posted a set of polished Rays on sale with Ebay which looked great(reminded me of the 19" wheels on my old E46 M3). Has anyone here had this done and what do you recon it would cost? Thanks
Gudzy
They've been put back on eBay but at £600 this time: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251240907069 Edited March 8, 2013 by Gudzy
Tarmac@TarmacSportz
Not sure about Rays but for Varsstoen in full polish it's £80 per wheel, I imagine it would be similar
4RE Leather
Is that polished as in shiney chrome looking?
andy james
Thanks guys. Looking at maybe polishing the wheels back to bear alloy but not sure what it will cost and also how do you repair the wheel if you kerb it!!
Tarmac@TarmacSportz
Yup.That's the process they do. Strip and polish. Whenever you kerb a wheel it's a ball ache, I did my powder coated wheels outside Cougar Store and it was a biatch to sort out, I had some local guy do it for £40 and he did a right sh1t job, so then I paid £70 at a proper place (there's a moral in that story somewhere). Anyways, I wouldn't let it put you off fella, just don't let the Mrs drive the car and steer clear of Mcds drive thrus
rodgeevans
Could get them powdercoated in anthracite or similar then the face diamond cut something similar to these not rays but get the idea
S1 HNK
Beware of the upkeep with diamond cut wheels!
SteveM
not sure the shape of the rays would suit diamond cutting unless you were just going to diamond cut the rim and not the spokes
gringo
Now I do like the look of those polished rays!! Something I'd certainly be interested in having done........and at around £80 a wheel something I'd consider. What would the upkeep be like? Keeping them clean and general wear and tear, easier or harder than the standard ray?
rodgeevans
not sure the shape of the rays would suit diamond cutting unless you were just going to diamond cut the rim and not the spokes you may be right there do the spokes have curved edges

gringo
Does anyone have chromed alloys? I'd be interested to see what they look like when fitted.
rodgeevans
there is a chrome powdercoat that might look good and easier upkeep
S1 HNK
Pretty sure the ones on eBay are just chrome 'look' paint and not polished metal. They look great and will be no harder to look after than a normal wheel if they've been done right.
gringo
Damn......someone has purchased them!!!
Tarmac@TarmacSportz
Damn......someone has purchased them!!! If you want full polished wheels then I can do you a set of Varrstoen 19" full polish at £1400
Tomzed
I purchased the wheels was watching them last time but they were silly money I made an offer and they accepted they are polished not chrome powder coat as i asked
S1 HNK
If they are polished, they are going to be mental to keep looking good!! Powder coated would be much better.
4RE Leather
I purchased the wheels was watching them last time but they were silly money I made an offer and they accepted they are polished not chrome powder coat as i asked Spraynsome superguard or the equivelent on them and polish it in. It helps To stop the brake dust and grime from stickin to the wheel. Either that or do what others do and put a wax polish on them!
gringo
So powder coating in a chrome finish is the way to go. Can someone confirm this is the best approach. I'll start getting quotes for the refurb. And once coated, what would be the best protection to use? Cheers
