georgerobertfreeman
Over the last few months the village I live in has had some pretty bad flooding. (2 out of 3 roads into the village closed due to flooding). I can only see this flooding getting worse and due to the small number of houses affected in the village the council are unwilling to provide / improve flood defences. So im looking to buy a 4x4 capable of dealing with a few feet of flood water and a bit of off roading. Looking to spend about £1000. Condition / miles dont matter. Just needs to be reliable and capable. Suggestions?

marzman
You can get into all sorts for that price. Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero, Rav4 etc but your best bet might be a Discovery or similar but i'd personally get a Jeep Grand Cherokee. http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302235470769/sort/default/usedcars/price-to/2000/body-type/4x4/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/sk102hx/page/5/radius/1500?logcode=p

Ricey
Reliable for 1k.......you'll do well! I think you may get a mitsi pinin (I think) for that much. If its mitsi it should be reliable.

Stutopia
From my youth in the countryside and my jollies in 3rd world countries, proper 4x4s include Toyota Landcruiser, Isuzu Trooper and best of all, the short wheeled based land rover defender, might be a smidgen over your budget though. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302235469700 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201303025579544 For a bit extra, there's this beast http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201301315135552 Edited March 3, 2013 by SuperStu
Beau
An Old Landcruiser would do you well, and you may find when you come to sell it you may get more. They seem to be getting more expensive these days. Never been a fan of Landrovers/rangerovers , they rust as fast as they drink the fuel Have a look at a 70 series Landcruiser? Alternatively what about a Pickup, Old Hilux?
Stutopia
Pickup is a great shout, my step dad has one out in France cos they get tons of snow in winter and they live in a kinda out there place. Not managed to get it stuck yet, 4 adult size seats in the cab version, huge load area and proper 4x4 stuff like a locking differential. Mitsubishi L200, similar below http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302255487983 Drinks a bit of juice and new tyres are a chunk, but I bet they are or most off readers. ph 7
Vauxhall Monterey. It is an Isuzu trooper but rebadged. Always sell for less than the Isuzu though.
