bamdc2
Hi guys, Just driving home from work in slow traffic and i suddenly started getting this awful metallic scraping/screeching noise coming from my back left (i think) wheel- really loud! Sounded like a small stone stuck in between my pad and disc and the noise was there constantly even without me touching the brake pedal. It went after a few mins, almost as though it came lose but then it came back and went again just before I arrived home. This seem like a caliper release issue to you? Was so damn embarrassing driving through town!! thanks Matt
ZMANALEX
Matt, Best to get it jacked up and remove the wheel and have a look. Could be a stone stuck somewhere, or back plate touching the disc or pads right down to the metal. Check the hub for free play before you remove the wheel in case the hub bearing is shot. All parts in stock if required and good to go same/next day. Alex.
Ebized
From your description, the fact it went as suddenly as it appeared would suggest something might have got caught in the caliper. Maybe you picked up some road debris that then came away? But if it were me I would have both wheels off and the pads out to check fully. Edit - Zoro got in just as I hit the post button

bamdc2
thanks chaps, will book it in to get it fully checked as its due annual service next month anyway. Hoping its just a stone but will drop you a line Alex if I need any pads/discs etc. The wheel hub bearing on that side was replaced when I got the Zed last year so really hoping that's not the issue! Thanks again for the input
flyboy
Could be the wear indicator on the pads, Bit of a metal clip which rubs on the disk when the pads need changing. Makes a hell of a noise when you first hear it. I thought it was a stone when mine went a while ago. Was intermittent at first but then constant. Then it snaps off or wears away and is silent again. Dont be fooled into thinking all is well!! Edited February 18, 2013 by flyboy
ZMANALEX
And remember that the inside rear pad usually wears down much quicker than the outside one, so remember and check all four pads. Alex.
