Proud new 350z owner

Recommended Posts

Hi folks. After months of searching for a 350z, I have now purchased one and will be driving it for the first time this Thursday. Its a 54 plate, Gun metal grey GT spec with 42000mls.I paid £6000 for it...not sure if that's over priced but it is in fantastic condition.

There are couple of things I would like to replace straight away and would appreciate any tips or where to look. The gear knob is well worn and would like a new one. Also the hydraulic arms (not sure if this is the right name) that holds the boot up doesn't work to well. I was told this happens in cold weather. Also any maintenance tips would be very welcome. I'm not too mechanically minded so if you can offer advice...keep it simple for me. I'll get a photo up later in the week for my profile, its not as fancy as most on here but the standard car is beautiful none the less.

Any way hello to everyone and I'm delighted to be part of the fortunate few

cheers

John

Welcome and Zedmanalex will sort you out with a new Nissan leather gear knob:)

As for the boot arms.

lift up the back and if need be prop it up.

Unpop the trim and you will see a black block in the middle of the tailgate.

Unbolt it and leave it out as this is a weight.

You will find that it may stay up now and will give you some breathing space until you decide

to change the strutts:)

Welcome! Bit of a noob myself, me and the Zed have our 1 week anniversary on Thursday, absolutely love it so far. I also bought a gun metal 54 GT, with 33000 miles and I paid a chunk more than £6k - so I'd say you've done way better than me! The first thing I changed was the worn gear knob, Steve @ Redline sold me a nice one ( http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/160-redline-styling/ ), quick delivery and I am very pleased with it. Great service. There's a few pictures in his customer photos section to peruse a load of knobs.

:welcome: Sounds like you got a decent price

Gearknob depends on what you want to spend. Are you looking a Nismo at quite a premium price, or just something nice to replace the old OEM? I personally just went for something to replace it and bought a Richbrook one for £25. I think halford stock them and Demon Tweeks have a huge stock or OMP, Sparco etc if you want something a little more fancy. Otherwise Steve and Redline as previously mentioned has some awesome Nismo's.

Try http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/car-boot-tailgate/nissan/350z for the struts. I just fitted some of theirs a couple of weeks ago and they fit really well and both cost about half the price of one from Nissan. I also suggest you pay the extra few quid and get the uprated ones (for Nismo spoiler) incase in the future you decide you want to fit some kind of wing.

G'luck.

I took a look on Demon Tweeks as I've been thinking about a knob replacement since I got the car, just not keen on shelling out £100 for the Nismo ones, as nice as they are. Unfortunately, I now like these..! http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/gear-knobs/auto-style-indy-cator-gearknobs
