OsakaBen
Thinking out loud here, obviously endless brakes are a 'anodised blue'. As I have a big brake kit in need of attention I thought I'd try something a little bit different to paint. I'm guessing the calipers would need to be polished before being anodised? Can anyone offer any advice here? I'd also like to raise the brembo logo as a metal badge rather than just a sticker. I'm slightly strange

AK350Z
Are they even aluminium?
The Chubby Ninja
i think they are but not 100% . Wasso is the aluminium yoda
Wasso
Ok from stage one of polishing my calipers I found their weight and results after polishing to lead me towards them not being aluminium. I could be wrong, and I'll see if I can find out.
Wasso
They are made from Oxidised Cast Aluminium. I am currently going through tests for anodising cast aluminium so I'll report back as I would presume the same results.
OsakaBen
This is a job for you wasso if you can find out, bearing in mind they are porsche 6 pot calipers. Edited February 1, 2013 by OsakaBen
Wasso
I would hazard a guess that some forms of Alu don't anodise very well, as a current needs to pass through. I would guess that being dense in size they may not anodise as well? I'm going to test a plenum which is cast aluminium, which maybe about 3-4 weeks away but I could report back. They would need to be polished first prior to anodising.
OsakaBen
Brembo website states all calipers are alimunium. Alloys can be anodised I'm sure, so caliper size should not be a problem?
Wasso
The quote of Oxidised Cast Auminium was from the Brembo site. It'll be the casting if anything that would potentially be the issue, again I'm speculating. We'll soon find out when I do a plenum!

AK350Z
They will anodise then, but as the ano finish is only microns thick, the quality of surface finish pre-treatment will be everything. The only problem is with larger parts, as you need X amperes per square meter of surface area, but I expect a professional outfit would be able to cope. WhackyWill
You can just polish the calipers.
OsakaBen
Home anodising sounds dangerous. Acid + electricity = pain
Wasso
You can just polish the calipers. Agreed but you'll need to seal them to avoid oxidisation.
