adam1942
Yes this is actually a thread about a spice rack! Anyway basically as a valentines present my girlfriend said she wanted a spice rack.. Yes she was serious! So we had a look around and the ones we liked where seriously dear.. for example; £68.00 - Large magnetic wall board (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dilbert-Magnetic-Spice-Rack-Large/dp/B000NPFAWK/ref=sr_1_9?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1359218448&sr=1-9) £83.90 - 12 shaker magnetic wall board (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wall-Board-with-12-Shakers/dp/B0014Z62G6/ref=sr_1_17?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1359218448&sr=1-17) £155.00 - 20 shaker magnetic wall board (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soho-Spice-Rack-pieces-SHS1850004/dp/B000KGETQA/ref=sr_1_20?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1359218448&sr=1-20) After having a look around the net it seems theres a simple solution.. http://eats.sefiebee.com/2012/05/ikea-magnetic-spice-rack/ albeit this looks a little... @*!# so I've made a few changes I bought the following; £5.00 8x http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80102919/ £10.00 1x http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20164076/ If you want to wall mount it you will only be able to mount it from one side in its standard form due to the way the holes are pressed on the back. So.. take a small file and file either side for 5 minutes with the following result; Ok its not tidy but common.. who is going to see it? Once the mounting holes are fixed simply drill 4 holes in the wall, plug and screw then slide the magnetic board to the side.. The end result is Jars come off very easily; The jars don't stick out too far either.. The only possible problem I can see is steam getting in to the jars and causing the spices to harden but that will be easily fixed with a small rubber washer/gasket in the lid causing an airtight seal.. Cost of parts £40 jars £10 magnetic board £0.40p Ikea bag £0.00 4 screws and plugs Total cost for our 24 piece spice rack: £50.40 Obviously she'll be getting something else for valentines day!! Enjoy!

Dblock
Cool. Looks awesome and some serious thought went into that. Although wouldnt it be abit hard to access if your cooking something?
Vik54
Looks great - a fab idea - but having them over a heat and potential steam source will end up spoiling the dried spices & herbs
