JEMAN
Hi all, Ive had my Z for a couple of months now, and really enjoying it Its a 2003 with 42k on the clock, full Nissan service history. My question is that second gear makes a slight crunch when cold every now and then...........is this normal ? All other gear changes are OK
ddcboyle
1st to second has always been a bit of an issue with the zed. Ive found after the car warms up it gets a little leff stiff. If its falling out of gear, id get it checked out, but if its just a bit of a tough pull or a few attempts at getting it in, its just due to the car not being warm enough. *Also if you drop it down a gear from high revs it tends to not like it aswell. DaddyCee
had the gearbox fluid changed on mine during the last service and it's much smoother now
ersen.o
i personally thought it was not the cold but a common fault in zed gearboxes with the syncros wearing out??
DannyBoy
i personally thought it was not the cold but a common fault in zed gearboxes with the syncros wearing out?? It's both really, the synchros on early gearboxes simply aren't up to the task and can cause crunches, particularly in 2nd 3rd and 5th. The cold tends to highlight the problem because nothing works as well with cold fluid. DB

ZMANALEX
Thank you Graham: DC Molyslip and the proper transmission fluids in stock and good to go same/next day. Most forum members have experienced a great improvement once the fluids and the moly have been swopped out. Alex
