Flex
Guys, I've maxed out my SSD hard drive on my lappy as its only 100gb, I was considering a hybrid drive but the computer shop I'm using doesn't rate them that much and have recommended a 500gb SSD but it is 300 squid and I didn't want to pay that much really. Has anyone got experience of the hybrid drives? Are they that bad, cause I've seen them for sale at around £120 and the spec seems pretty good. Any feed back would be muchos appreciated. The Bounty Bar Kid
Got one. Only good if using same programs often. Uses an algorithm to identify what to pre load in solid state memory. IMO its better than normal, but not as good as ssd. Great for value though!
rtbiscuit
why not an external HDD?
The Bounty Bar Kid
why not an external HDD? Aren't laptops meant to be portable?

JetSet
When I got a bit low on Laptop space I just bought a 250gb 2.5 inch USB Hard Drive from ASDA. Cost me about £45 at the time. Doesn't need a power supply as it gets its power from the USB port, weighs next to nothing and fits in your pocket. Chris`I
I had a 128GB drive in my ultrabook which I filled, and now have a Crucial 256GB SSD. Unfortunately mine is an mSATA so cant go bigger, but TBH, with that and a NAS for storage I can easily keep my crap below the 256GB. WIth hybrid drives, I think you might find it annoying if it ever doesnt cache the files you want. From what I've heard they are great for startup speeds but other than that its just normal HDD speed. Far better to get a smaller SSD and have everything quick
Sarnie
What are you all talking about???
ChrisS
Use your laptop for programs and store the crap elsewhere. 100 Gb of progs should be enough. Home Cloud ????? http://www.amazon.co...08770845&sr=8-
Chris`I
I'd argue that its not really a Cloud solution, but a good NAS would be an ideal solution as I'd already stated Unless you need the data to be portable with the laptop and not be reliant on a crappy net connection somewhere. ChrisS
Agree Chris, but a lot of peoples 'hard drives' are like my wife's handbag....................... Full of crap.....

Flex
Thanks Guys, My two biggest data types are work at around 16gb and I'd rather that on the lappy for reasons such as losing an external disk, damage etc and I've just started playing battlefield 3 which is massive (30gb +) and I think performance would be terrible if I installed in on an ext disk (if it would even run at all). The rest is mainly bloody windows which is pretty much all my space used up (sigh). I know the SSD will come down probably by 50-100 quid over the next few months which is a real kick in the nads but I might just bite the bullet. I just wanted to know if the hybrids were anywhere near as good as the SSD really. Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.
