stuarty
I like nice cars, but the problem is i hardly ever drive anywhere. I bought a brand new BMW e92, 2 months ago and its only covered 300 miles. I work, train, and socalise within 1 mile from my home and i enjoy walking most of the time. Also my cars always parked in my garage with my wife's car infront, so if i need to drive i end up taking the wife's car, which she also hardly ever uses! I love nice cars but driving them dosent bother me, is this weird? I think i should have just bought and older sports car, restored it to perfect condition and just cleaned and polished it. Also, it probably wouldnt depreciate, so it wouldnt feel as bad not using it.

ewan221
You need something like a TVR :-)

stuarty
Do it, flog the Beemer, get a nice classic that need some TLC and restore it I'm tempted, but its only 8 weeks old. If i could buy a "cheaper" classic i would do it, then when the times right sell the new car!
rtbiscuit
what classics do you like? how old do you want to go? if i was in your position i'd go for something mental, or completely impractical. or even a kit car. if you don't rely on it then a TVR would be a good shout. if you want to restore something then old jaguars are nice like the E type kit cars like a westfield are great fun drives seems to be at the moment the bigger the engine the cheaper it is. DoogyRev
Yes you will probably loose money on the BMW, no matter if you sell now or in 6 months time, but I would also look for people with classics that would part ex or swap for your car

When i say a classic, it would have to be something not to old as i like my comfort. Also it would probably have to be some sort of coupe and something fast. Technically i should have kept my zed as it was in awesome condition!
brumjohn
The longer you think about, the more the beemer is losing in depreciation. Bite the bullet and find something to be passionate about

brillomaster
that is a little bit strange... most people buy a nice car with all the good intentions of actually driving it, but you've actually said straight out you enjoy walking, and when you do drive, you take the wifes car over yours as its in front... I think what you need nestled away in the garage is a piece of car pornography, which is too nice to drive more than a handful of times a year, more to be savoured as a thing of beauty - some kind of classic sportscar. TVR is a good shout, but possibly not flashy enough... something like maybe an E-type if funds will stretch, or maybe a old benz....
rtbiscuit
i know i'll get flogged for this on here, but my XKR has been great, its an ongoing restoration, it was cheap to buy, its comfortable with more creature comforts you can shake a stick at. looks great. and not too old, and plenty of power. down side its luxo barge, but i don;t alwyas think thats a negative

Buy something that only comes out a few times a year. Thats me on a mission! Ive never really liked the e type jag, dont know why though. TBH the beemer is great cant fault it at all. I know its only a 2L but it drives great. I hardly used my 350Z when i had it either, so buying something special and only using it a few times a year makes sense and i would sleep better knowing i had it! leonk
Do it, flog the Beemer, get a nice classic that need some TLC and restore it As Doogy says. I loved the Zed but did less than a thousand miles in the two years of ownership. Wizurd did more miles in it driving it home after he bought it. So in the end having considered 997s and a v8 vantage I bought an e type to enjoy both on the road and in the garage.
4RE Leather
I spent 5 years fully restoring a Daimler MK11 250V8 and 2 days after it came back from Norfolk for the new leather fittment it was stolen. Police didn;t give a hoot. Full tank or Fuel 2 miles from M25 and a 5 hour start, what chance had ! I think that was one of the most depressing moments of my life. Insurance gave me £20k but it cost 3 times that to restore as buiscuit will tell you. But the Jaguar or Daimler MK11 is a true classic and the 1st ever 4 door production car to have disc brakes all round. It even had a little red warning triangle at the back.
