TheMacDaddy
Hi all My MY2010 370Z has started making a nasty, loud grinding noise when the clutch is fully depressed. It is intermittent, so comes and goes between runs, and lifting the clutch stops the noise. It typically only happens at low speeds, mostly at a stand-still before shifting into first or reverse, or coming to a stop at a junction. The noise will continue for as long as the clutch pedal is down, but bringing the pedal up then back down again clears the problem. This isn't the usual noisy Z clutch fly wheel complaint, it's a very distinct and loud grinding sound. Any ideas?
Jay
Hey mate I had a similar problem with my 2010 as well, however it was after a run I could hear the crunching noise but when I pressed my clutch down it stopped! So to cut a long story short took it into Nissan and I got a new clutch and gearbox under warranty. So get it into Nissan to get checked. TheMacDaddy
Yeah sounds like a good idea. It's due a service in a couple of weeks so I will see what they say. Problem is that intermittent problems always seem to disappear as soon as you pull up at the dealers!
TheMacDaddy
Mystery solved - just got back from Abbey for my UpRev and Mark and the guys diagnosed this problem for me. Clutch release bearing has gone. Warranty job, so it's back to the dealers. Will let you know how it goes.
ZMANALEX
As Jay has said, great advice: Back to Nissan for warranty. Alex,
apcarter
i got the same problem. i thinking the release bearing gone on my z. does this mean it covered by the warranty? if so do they put a hole new clutch in or just they change the bearing? got the car booked in on the 27th to get checked out and sorted hopefully. can any one enlighten me on this please? pm or on here. thanks! 350zedd
If the Zed is within the warranty period then yes. If its a main dealer then they'll probably go for the cheapest option and waz in a new release bearing. If I was doing the job, I'd be checking the clutch friction material for wear while I've got the gearbox off. I'd probably change the whole clutch while I was at it if its been on for a year or two. Depends how worn it was.

If not, then I would advise you go to one for another opinion. Otherwise, if you post up your location I'm sure someone on here will be able to point you in the direction of a suitable dealer or specialist independent as I'm afraid we have heard dealers diagnostics are not always sound. apcarter
HPC dealer??? my location is rotherham/sheffield. i went to nissan sheffield dealer but really got no hope there. Do you have to take it to a nissan dealer with it still under warranty or can you take it some where else? HPC = High Performance Centre. They are Nissan garages which specialise in the performance variety of Nissans (350, 370, GT-R) rather than the run of the mill stuff (although they still do that too) http://www.nissan.co...rs/nhpc/locator Click the "locator" tab at the far right of the box and stick in your postcode Edited January 3, 2014 by Steel Lynx
R35LEE
U may well find that they say the same thing at the HPC's but it is worth a try
