ianphampton
The BBC ran a piece today about apes having a mid life crisis - just like humans. As part of their description of this they said it was exhibited by " . . .middle aged men . . . buying sports cars" And they showed - a SAAB. I was aghast - with a couple of options for reasons - Option 1 I'm 56, and I bought my 350Z 3 years ago. My kids describe it as "Dad's mid-life crisis car" Now if a typical mid life crisis makes you buy a SAAB - how bad is my life if I've bought a ZED? Option 2 We all know the BBC is populated by, umm, persons of a very tender disposition, and I guess they all drive Toyota Prius, so perhaps, to them, a SAAB is an extreme vehicle. This, implies, people who drive Zeds are the spawn of the devil, and so far beyond the pale as to be beyond the ken of anyone at the BBC To extrapolate this rant - the people in the Road Planning depts at the council are all probably of the same psyche as people at the BBC, which is why they put traffic lights, and speed bumps and 20mph signs everywhere, so more red-blooded persons - who tend to drive slightly more exiting vehicles like the Zed, are on the edge of 2012 society, and will all probably be cast out, at some point. rtbiscuit
what does it say about me with a V8 at 30 then? i've been in sports cars since i was 25, i always said i've been in permanent crisis since i turned 20.
MrsNiki
I agree with the BBC, I would associate buying a Saab with a crisis, not just a mid life one either! Cool people drive zed's, whatever their age
Flex
It's all balls, I mean who doesn't dream of having their 'dream car' it's just that most people can't afford to buy one till later years.
dazh
I must have started my mid life crisis at 16 when I bought my first bike by 19 I had a bike and a full rally prepped MKII Escort, its been along those lines for nearly 30 years now, so I guess that makes it a whole life crisis, Can I add thats 30 years from 16 not 19 Edited November 20, 2012 by dazh

My kids describe it as "Dad's mid-life crisis car" It's not really a mid life crises, more like a mid life opportunity. By the time you get to your 50's your mortgage will be paid and your kids will have grown up, time to enjoy yourself . Pete

Aliensurfer
I part ex'd my Saab when I got the Zed. Loved my 9-3, she served me very well. My girlfriend thinks me getting the Zed is a mid life crisis, mainly because she is 11 years younger than me and both fit the stereotype, however, I just think that at 36 I now have enough disposable income to be to afford the Zed, whereas a younger me certainly didn't. leonk
For me, it was the actual lack of the daily "crisis" that marriage, kids and a huge mortgage bring, and finally in mid life having some disposable income of my own again!
dragon
You don't need a mid life crisis to buy a z
Jay
Lets just say we have alot of elderly gentleman driving zeds lol and I dont see that changing any time soon. Which I do find strange as my old boy is 57 and has hated both of my zeds as they are uncomfortable and too bloody low haha. Oh and is a fairly fit guy. choptop
I always looked at Saab's as a bit leftfield but hardly a sports car. Think the BBC need to join the 21st century.
Stew
Funnily enough, My Dad bought his CL63 the day before his 56th Birthday...... He has had a weekend toy for at least the past 12 years but this was different!
Will370z
Ummmmm i hit 35 and then bought a saab convertible. Must admit it was a very comfy, quick well made car and did its job well. Just wasnt that much fun and when i looked around all other saab convertibles seemed to be driven by ...well i shall be polite and say those of the older persuasion. Decided i wanted some more fun so bought my zed roadster, now on my 2nd. Does that mean im on my 3rd mid life crysis at 37.........gulp
Jay
You have not hit mid life crisis yet will...... but when you do....... I cant wait to see what car you get lol
brillomaster
hmm, this mid life crisis lark doesnt make much sense to me... i've had 4 rwd cars now - one convertible, 2 coupes and a saloon and i'm only 25. i plan to carry on driving sportscars for as long as i can. if i do accidentally have kids, i'll move on to either an M3, or a hot impreza. my mid life crisis car is also likely to be Saab, but when i buy it it will be a step down, not up
