jacques
Hi, So I had a minor ding last night which caused the actuators under the hood to fire as part of the pedestrian safety mechanism and popped the hood. As I understand it from doing some reading these are one time use and will need to be replaced with a whole bunch of other things (front sensors, left and right hinges and the actuators themselves). As there is no other damage except for a slightly scuffed left front alloy this is rather annoying but oh well. I'm debating if I should put in an insurance claim or fix it myself. Does anyone have experience with these actuators and how much they cost to replace? Any input much appreciated! Cheers, Jacques
Will370z
Ummmmmm, from what ive read this is going to be rather expensive. A similar thing happened to a gtr owner where he touched the car in front and just scratched the front bumper and it triggered the pedestrian safety system. He had to have the brackets replaced and the ecu reset / replaced. It cost him.....wait for it £12,000 I really hope the quivalent system is cheaper in the 370. MattyV6
That £12,000 figure was apparently a bad conversion and was a LOT cheaper.
jacques
Thanks Matty - lets hope so. I'll keep you guys posted as there is nearly no info on this except for the GTR Nightmare. /J

spursmaddave
I'm all for pedestrian safety but that's just rediculous
Ekona
I'd rather kill a pedestrian than pay that. Silly question, but do they have to go back? Can you not just remove them and put the bonnet back down?
jacques
Will research - but the car can drive fine without them. There will be a light that comes on on the dash. If they are not present the car will not comply with the EU regulations, but not sure if that makes the car unroadworthy / not insured... The final bill looks to be close to £2.5k for the sensors, hinges and the rest of the stuff. Not impressed.
Ekona
Car doesn't have to comply with EU regs once it's been sold, so no fear there. Light on the dash will mean MOT fail but there's ways around that. Insurance could be another matter, but I can't see it being an issue assuming you're with a specialist. Vik54
feck!! Didn't realise the 370 had this Am sure zmanalex or other traders would be able to source for you much cheaper - but it will be the fitting and labour that will blow the budget. Hope it works out ok for you

Not sure its a fail, More of an advisory ? Crap look Jacques, thought you were emigrating ?
jacques
Hey Tarmac - Yeah... I was well down the route of doing that but decided against it. I got the FI TDX exhaust with carbon mufflers in the end. Its a beast... !
R35LEE
I have one of the bonnet rams in stock. The hinges refold back into position so you wont need those. I will PM you my number as I may have the other parts too

Cheers, Jacques Read somewhere its circa....can't recall where though! 4 K to put right.....Mark at Abbey can inhibit these things I believe. It's not going to be cheap, and they only pop at speeds above 15 mph. Edited November 5, 2012 by Zugara
