Where did you meet your other half?

I was walking around London yesterday and pretty much everyone I saw was a couple, and it got me thinking, where do all these people meet each other nowadays? Surely not every couple meet at the usual 'meat markets' aka nightclubs. Or are we actually turning into the online dating generation? Has anyone every done the whole get dressed up for the supermarket, or tried the online dating or are you the master of pulling at the clubs?

I have been single a couple of years now and being mid twenties I'm at that stage where all the mates are coupled up and don't do socialising so I don't get to go out and meet people much. Being single used to bother me but right now i couldn't care less. So I'm not after tips on how to pick up women  I'm just simply wondering where you met your other half, maybe hear some good stories. etc etc

I was in the same situation a couple of years ago mate and met my GF on the Internet I must hasten to add not thaibrides.com or shattered.com......

I really couldn't be happier, without the web I'd never have met her. Life is very strange sometimes.

Funny someone should bring this up, because I'm also of the mid-twenties-and-single variety and was wondering exactly the same thing just the other day. I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of mid-twenties couples met at uni. I didn't go to uni, and chose to join the military instead (kinda the other end of the scale as far as meeting nice young women goes) and on emerging back into the real world I've found that single people only seem to exist in clubs, and that's not really my thing.

+1,met the good woman on line in 2006 and we got married nearly 2 years ago, never been happier.

Some of the things DB and the OP said ring true with me and it's obviously not an age thing, I'm 58 so I was hardly going to go clubbing at that age and then you realise you aren't going to meet mrs right coming out of a lift or getting off a train etc. I recommend the internet, just chose a webiste/dating service carefully if you are serious about meeting someone compatible, it's a great and logical way to have more of a chance of meeting someone who is actually on your wavelength. Trust me, you'll meet some numpties too and probably have a good laugh about it on the way. Here endeth the ramblings of an "old fart" :) Go for it, you'll never know otherwise............................... :)

I met my other half for the first time outside Coventry train station, got straight in her and took her for a spin. We are separated now. Oh, hang on, you don't mean the Zed do you...

...I met my wife at work 7 years ago, at a leaving do for someone in her department, I feigned an interest in Fencing which she said she wanted to try and the next day set about finding a local Fencing class we could try out, and it went from there.

We met on this club forum ! Officially the first 350Z couple and first 350Z baby! :)

Unfortunately we both had to sell our Zeds :surrender:

Yes this used to be a service provided by the annual Wales event or on the forum, sometimes it was successful sometime not. Here you can see a forum member getting berated by Little Miss on a Wales drive from the past

Top marks to those that can name all the members in this shot ;)

I met my ex at a funeral, in hindsight I would suggest you don't follow my example.

Currently much happier with my mail order bride, she does all my cooking and cleaning, she can't speak English so we don't argue plus she is just the right height to rest my pint on her head while I'm down the boozer with the lads.

You'll love this...I met mine when I went to the bank to draw the money out to buy my 350Z. Long story short; whilst waiting, the Bank Mananger insisted upon doing an account review for me, basically made me a cup of coffee whilst I read her paper and she 'sorted' out my account.

A year to the day we got married, the only downside is it's not easy to run a slush fund for the car and bike and keep it hidden

I met most of my previous girlfriends via work. Same old story really, you spent most of your time at work, and so usually build up a good friendship with people at work, and if one of your work mates happens to be a hot bird, then before long an attraction will appear. Either that, or you join a new company and immediately spot some hot chick and become friends with her. I had some really good relationships this way, although the obvious problem is when you split up with the person, then have to change jobs as you just cant face going to work and seeing your ex there.

In fact, thinking about all my mates. Every single one of them met their missus via work. Except one who met his missus whilst on holiday in Mexico.

Where this fell over for me was when as a single straight guy I joined a company which was full of blokes and no women working there. Doh! So, anyway, after being single for a while a mate persuaded me to joined a popular online dating agency just to make some new friends of the opposite sex. I had mixed results on there - most of the women who contacted me seemed to be single for a reason - either mad stalker types or morbidly obese and not attractive. I did meet a couple of really nice girls who were interested in me, but the feeling wasnt mutual. But, one of the girls I did meet turned out to be really nice and I ended up dating her. That was 4 years ago now and we are now married.

So, online dating sites can work, but i guess its a bit like when you go night clubbing. You get certain types of people playing the numbers game and just trying it on with everyone in the hope one will put out as all they are interested in is a quick leg over. Dating sites which need subscribing to reduce this problem to some degree.

I met Jo via the guitarist of the band I was in at the time, she's his cousin and came to one of our gigs. She was only 15 at the time and I was taken so didn't go any further, but a few months (and a birthday and a separation later!) we met up again when the guitarist threw a halloween party and she was there again. We hooked up and got married 7 years later.

If I was single now I'm really not sure how I'd go about trying to meet someone, can't be bothered with trying to pull in pubs or bars and interweb dating doesn't hugely appeal. I'd probably just be happy to stay single and if someone fell into my life then great, but no worries if not.

First wife at gig in Richmond and when that relationship went tits up and I was feeling sorry for myself at work along came June who had more recently split with her ex, who she had divorced but found a second try wasn't working, and we have just celebrated 20 years of a very happy marriage.

Mind you, I don't think she's too keen too on the other love of my life that throws her around the countryside :teeth:
