seriously thinking about this now

obviousy people have had this done on here - how long does the process take, is it a drive in, drive out a couple of hours later ?

Mines my daily, so leaving it for more than a day would be very difficult :surrender:

input please

The problem, as I see it, is - both front wheels need doing, the rears are untouched.

As I've read from others, the smoked grey is virtually impossible to match - but how close can they get so that you can't tell without close inspection ? - or, get all 4 done so they properly match ?

My advice as i will be doing this too

1) wait til the new year to avoid all the chips from over the winter and the gritters.

2) get all 4 done at once, i have now had 3 attempts trying to get a match on my rear right wheel and each time its come back wrong... :bang:

Im expecting to pay approx £85 per wheel.

Any more than £60 a wheel and you are being ripped off.

For the cost id have the whole lot done and then they'll match up.

I've used the wheel specialist before and the finish was much stronger than the factory finish so unless you are going for black I wouldn't worry about the winter.

I've just got mine back from getting done this weekend.

I've got 18" Rays on my GT model, and I had them done in a gunmetal on my silver Z - yes I know..... once I get the rest of the car washed next weekend, I'll post some pictures.

Anyway:

I had the wheels on my BMW M refurbished, and paid about £65 a rim, but it involved sending them off and getting them back a week later etc. etc. etc....

This time I gave the car to a bodyshop and got them to strip the wheel front and, prime it, and spray it..... and it worked out at £45 a rim, and I was able to pick whatever colour I liked.

The point I'm trying to make is that you need to make sure you're comparing prices for what you're getting for your hard earned cash, and not be comparing apples to pears :drunk:

What a shame you are too far away from me as I have a 370Z wheels in stock so refurbishment would only be a drive in and out job.

Yes it's far-far away :( otherwise I'm offering a swap service, as I have one front and one rear alloys on my shelf I can get them done in the colour of yours by Lepsons before you come so when you pop in they prepared already just need to swap tyres. :) Thanks for the welcome too :)

I'm only charging what Lepsons would charge for the refurb.(usually around £90-£110/wheel) and another £20/wheel to swap the tyres over. The wheels will be refurb when I book yours in so we can arrange any colour (can be done by Lepsons)

Ok - bit of an update here

I've had 2 prices back

£86.50 / wheel - stripped, repaired, powder coated, laquered etc - all in one day - http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk

£70 / wheel - stripped, repaired, painted, lacquered etc - over 2 days - http://www.alloyrefurb.net

whats the difference between the 2 processes and which would you recommend

powder coat is much more durable and is the one I'd recommend ... thewheelspecialist.co.uk at Garforth is the one I used ...

Would advise that whatever refurb process you choose, you request the face that fits the hub is untreated - certainly powder coating has been known to lead to disc distortion - ask tophooker (trader) on here if in doubt ;)

I would recommend thewheelspecialist.co.uk

I used them for my Civic when my dad dropped a wheel and chipped it. They did an exact match to the champ. white.

Cost £90 including VAT.

I was impressed with the work and they are friendly family run business for the one based in Newcastle.

Im gonna use them if I ever choose to go with a darker wheel (considering buying a 2nd set) like gunmetal or bronze.

Im of the thought that cheaper price isn't always best. I know some places will be cheaper but I wanted high quality professional finish and id heard other places found it difficult to match the colour.

I was impressed with their customer service and quality of work.

:)
