TameRacingDriver
On past cars I've used the fact that the dials are lit up to tell me whether my headlights are turned on. In the Z, the dials backlighting comes on as soon as you turn the ignition to the on position. Twice now, I've forgotten to turn my lights on because the dials are already lit up! Wasso
Force of habbit put your lights on. If not check the light indicator top left.

Wasso
Shame. Oh well, just have to try and remember. try and remember Where are you located so that I know not to drive in your locality for the fear of an oncoming Zed with no lights on! Maybe change cars to a Renault Scenic as I know they have auto lights for you.
rodgeevans
not a direct answer to your question but i have mine so they dim to the lowest setting when the headlights turn on, not because i forget to turn them on mind u i just dont like the dash lights to be bright when it gets dark. People get used to things like that, funnily enough. The last two nights it has not been completely dark, but normally I would have had the lights on. No need to be an arse. You should know if your lights are on or off without looking at the dash. It's an awareness factor and paramount for your own safety. I'm not being an arse but if you don't know whether your lights are on or not, I'd be a tad worried.
Husky
I used to do the same from time to time. It's going around places with street lighting that used to catch me out, then i got onto a dark road and yikes.
TameRacingDriver
I'm driving an unfamiliar car (I've had it less than 2 weeks, and so far, only ever driven in daylight), the sky went grey as I drove home due to a torrent of rain, and the dials were brightly illuminated, and street lights illuminate the road, you aren't necessarily going to notice headlights. I don't know why I'm bothering to respond really, there's always one smart arse on these types of forum who try and wind people up from the comfort of their chair. I guess you never, ever make any mistake ever then? Why is it so unreasonable to expect a car to behave in a similar fashion to the last 10 cars I've owned? Shel
I was the same when i first drove mine, i thought why are my dash lights on? I asked someone and they said they are supposed to be, seems odd tho

TameRacingDriver
Posts like that are why I tend not to bother with owners club forums at times. If I want bitching, I can get that at pistonheads, at least there I know to expect it....
Husky
Anyway. I doubt you could mod it to alter the behaviour either. The control of the lights is straight of the the circuit board and the lights are surface mounted LED's.
TameRacingDriver
Not to worry husky. For those that gave helpful replies, thanks. I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Dblock
Don't worry mate I do it all the time too. Like you say your clocks are lit your lights are usually on. My last car had auto lights and that makes it worse I can remember driving along once when raining thinking crap wipers aren't working forgot they aren't auto too . My car is a JDM and I driver other euro cars quite often and go to flash someone and my wipers turn on, or I go wash my windscreen turn the beams on. You will get used to it thoug. TameRacingDriver
I've had the lights / wiper problem before, as I've driven a few JDM cars in my time (MR2T, DC2 ITR, Eunos), I've only just stopped getting mixed up on occasion! Personally I preferred the indicators on the right anyway, that is the correct place for them IMO!
