LRF4N
Looking for a camera that could act as a happy medium between an everyday digital camera and an SLR. I like taking photos of my cars, not much else, and SLR cameras seem to give the best results. Also my wife asked me to get a camera to keep family snaps altogether, rather than on our phones that get changed every year or 2 Thought I would just get one family/car camera that ticks all the boxes that isn't too big and not too expensive. Does such a thing exist?

LRF4N
No idea lol. I know normal digital cameras are cheap and last time I checked SLRs they were around £600? Wasn't looking to spend a lot and not really looked into it properly since my wife asked me last week. If it will give me good quality pics of the cars I could go to the £200 quid mark but ideally lower. Is there a specific feature or function I should look out for? Ebized
Very happy with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100, and well under your budget. http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/ ... 00_review/ Certainly not the full bells and whistles of the Canons/Nikons but the flexible LCD display works well for me as bloody glasses restrict the SLR function (which it also has). Battery seems to go on forever even when taking lots of videos and the HD playback through the TV (HD cable needed) is supurb.

The Bounty Bar Kid
Canon IXUS range is good. I've got the 1100. Touch screen is a bit poo but the rest of the phone is sweet!
Neilp
fujifilm finepix s4000 bridge camera. Good if you learn to use it on manual mode
LRF4N
Cheers for the tips so far, gives me food for thought. I'm not expecting picture quality like that of an SLR but as close as possible within budget
SteveW
Canon Powershot SX range are very good crossover cameras. The mrs has one and it has a good selection of manual modes
choptop
I like Sony. To be honest buy any of the major brands and you will not go wrong with any of them. Just make sure it has a rechargable battery
LRF4N
So basically just buy a decent camera- good brand, high megapixel screen with a manual mode? And learn to play tricks with that?

Chris`I
Canon SX range are good, I have an SX240 as a carry about camera for MTB etc. If you want awesome pic quality with true SLR capabilites in a P&S shell - then the Canon G1X is awesome. I love mine, it takes amazing pics.
chettle
That pic was taken with a Canon PowerShot S95.... Brilliant for a point and click! (pic was blatantly stolen from a post on PH)
Chris`I
Cracking shot but that doesnt appear to be "out of the camera", looks like its been post processed.
chettle
Thats what i thought... but apparently out the camera.....
Chris`I
Hmm they must have some interesting settings. Like contrast and sharpening right up to achieve that. Unless it has a built in HDR setting which effectively means it is out the camera but not really what the camera "saw".
SteveW
Sick road in that photograph! Only matched by the pic.
