Keyser
Some more pictures of progress since the last update I am not overly happy with some of the welds so I thought I'd try and tidy them up a strengthening plate has been added but half covers a drain hole so that needs sorting Finished the front of the driver's door added some welds to the plates found another hole and another lumpy weld so did a tidy up on that then we lowered the mini Sub frames of so we could do this - Now I was going to replace the rear panel but as it will now be under the body kit I had to repair it, starting with this Few plates and a bit of welding later Caught in the act by someone???? The next thing to tackle is the shell I now have was race prepped so all the pipes and cables have been removed from the bottom and re-run inside, As this will now be a road car again thy need to go back underneath but the mounts have also been cut off!! So on the donor shell on the bottom is the fuel line carrier but not anymore I cut it and some other clips out - Cleaned it up and attached it to the new shell sorted Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ............................... Keyser
How many men and women does it take to tip a mini then? Errrrr none, Bob just sneezed Correct Me and Bob did it but when it's just the shell it only actually takes one, I just moved the tyres it is laying on and "caught" the shell as it came over
NeilMH
Very interesting . I re-built a defunct Mini many years ago (mainly to strip down and rebuild the mechanical bits/engine for learning purposes). Sadly I did it with about 5% of the skill you have - somehow it started, drove and went through an MOT - I then part exchanged it for a VW Polo. I can only hope they didn't sell it on to another person Always loved the older Minis - right back to the floor start, sliding window variety. Also had a lot of fun watching Minicross at places like Lydden. Will continue to watch with interest, particularly what you decide to do re suspension etc. I lost a silly amount of time trying to re-align the engine mountings because I didn't know about the version with captive nuts (a second pair of hands would have been just as good). Keyser
Still plodding on with the Mini between little jobs on my and Bob's Zed's as well as actually getting out in mine to a meet So remember this Gone I cut out the bucket seat mounts that were put in when the shell was rally prepped Then I had to deal with this plate that took the back of the bucket seat but covers the OEM seatbelt mount so new plate in there (I have finished it but don't have a picture) the front hand brake mount was missing So I welded in one from the other shell Did the last seam then I was bored of welding so I did some filler instead That's not strictly true - I wasn't bored I just didn't really know how to tackle the next job This was filled at some point in the past with fibre glass but needs a better repair, anyway after some cogitating I thought sod it and cut the bad bit out Then I cut a bit out of the old shell and got busy with the welder again I was quite happy until I found out I missed a bit of fibre glass in the next panel down I'll weld a plate over that from the inside Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ............................. Keyser
Been a bit busy lately with other things but I have managed a few more bits on the Mini I had this hole I missed when I repaired the wing so I cut a plate no more hole Now the next challenge, I was missing one of these Now Buster said - "make one" - Errrr yerr OK then ?????????? However after forgetting to ask around this week to see if any of my contact could knock one up I thought I'd have a go so I got a piece of pipe cut a bit of the end about the right size now I know what your thinking but stay with me here cut it open beat it with a hammer then using another pipe as a dolly. beat it some more and after drilling some holes and smoothing the edges we have - and it even fits where it should to hold this in place then I had to add a plate in the corner here that got missed by the previous owner sorted and the last thing today before it got to cold out there was to start setting out the new interior behind the seats so I can build in a base box round the roll cage Stay tuned for the next exciting episode......................................... leonk
Love the updates! Keep up the great work. Suppose you saw Bernie and the muppets on the last episode of classic car rescue doing the Mini " cooper " yours should be worth about 30k in comparison
Keyser
Well, well, well I'm building a base box in the back of the Mini just for fun and as I have never done an ICE install before - So this is all new to me I've been surfing the web and listening to advice on what I need and keeping an eye on eBay for any parts I may be able to utilise. Of course being a man I used the good old "Bigger must be better" thought process and when this little item came up close by I sent an offer, which the seller accepted! So just got back from one of those dodgy carpark meetings That should cover the base requirements in a Mini - shouldn't it? As I say I know nothing about ICE I just looked at loads of pictures Of course if it doesn't do the job - Stay Tuned for the next exciting episode ...................... glrnet
So you went big on the product and small on the text!!! Please remember some of your readers are completely the wrong side of 50 anyway that lot should give the subframe and the shox a good workout

Keyser
So I know this is a car forum but tonight something a little different Welcome to ............... Carpentry With Keyser OK This is the back of the original Mini rear seat As you see the top is all nicely shaped including a big lip That lets it fit over and neatly finish this Now the roll cage makes the rear seat obsolete so I want to recreate the top of the seat as the design hides the shape and covers the join with the parcel shelf and side windows. I then want to blend it into the new Sub box. Got some MDF cut a strip cut the front face at the same angle as the rear seat used a router to clear a channel for the lip on the parcel shelf Made a template and cut another strip to this shape Join the two together Then it fits like - The gaps are left to allow space for foam padding and upholstery, then it should be a snug fit to the edges. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ...........................
