Neilp
I don't know but you've picked the wrong night. Most people are usually busy with family or out partying. You may find more help tomorrow when people are dying on the couch bored
marzman
See my guide for fitting a head up display to a 2003 found here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=18962 I dont know if this VSS (vehicle speed sense) wire is what you're after to sort out your problem, but this is the vehicle speed sense wire as requested. Hey all. Right, my headup display arrived this morning, so i installed it today and am very pleased with the results I was hoping it would be GPS based, but it wasnt - it needed to be wired in. So i spent a couple of hours on here/google and found all the info i needed. Right, below is the Kit - this is the Valeo - Speed Visio unit (think its spanish). The installation requires 3 wires to be spliced in - Power, ground, and the VSS (vehicle Speed Sensor) wire. Having trawled through posts on my350z etc, i found out that the best place to get to the VSS was from the 'Unified Meter and A/C Amp' unit which is a large white unit under the stereo. To get to this you have to remove the center console, which is VERY easy to do - takes roughly 5 minutes. I used the following guide: http://liljerk.morpheus.net/350Z/dash_removal/ You dont have to remove the whole center console - just the bottom part, so you can get to the white box - which is the Unified Meter and A/C Amp' unit - then unscrew this (via the screws underneath) and pull it forward. You'll be able to see that the wiring harness behind this is clipped into the mounting unit using a little popper, so you'll need to undo this with some pliers so you can pull it forward more. Now, the VSS wire is found on the middle plug (grey - M49), and is pin 26 - which if you're looking down on it is the top row, 3rd hole from the left. My wire was brown with a white stripe. I found the wiring info in this document - on page 47: http://www.myzroadster.com/files/2006%2 ... al/atc.pdf EDIT: If the link dies again, its "http://www.myzroadster.com/files/2006%20service%20manual/atc.pdf" NOTE: This document doesnt mention the vehicle speed sense wire, but it definitely is pin 26...!! So, i had to splice into this cable, and also chose pins 22 and 29 for the power and ground feeds. This makes the unit switch on when the key is turned to position 2. For the splicing, the install kit came with 3 little splice boxes - a very clever way of connecting wires - you just place the wires in the little box, and with pliers close the lid, and it does the connection for you!! Im from the old school of a swiss army knife and some electrical tape, so these were a real treat You can see in the fuzzy pic below what it looks like with these wires spliced: Next up, i had to choose where to route the wire... so using a bbq skewer, i taped my wire to it and poked it through to my footwell (needed to remove a vent cover by the pedals, and pull the carpet back a bit to get it through). Now, i've not finished tidying up the cable yet, but it ran nicely up by my steering wheel, and fits in the gap by the clocks and round up onto the dash - you basically cant see it at all. Lastly when pointing at just the windscreen, you get kind of a double image of the speed, but it comes with a transparent black oval which sticks to the windscreen (with water - no glue). I didnt want to put this on really, but it really clears up the image so will leave it for now. See the pics below for what i mean! Anyway, after messing with the calibration for 10 mins, i got it in sync perfectly with my speed pod - so its spot on! Normal glass: a not very good video: I'll take some pics of the finished mounting location and quality tomorrow, as i was rushing and had to go to a party tonight! nathanbounce
Thanks for the info marsman, but this wire will not remove the speed restriction on my car,it has to be the one in the ecu loom?
marzman
What are you trying to do? You'll need to fit something like the HKS Speed Limit Defencer to override the JDM 112mph limit if thats what you're talking about?
nathanbounce
That is what im trying to do,but i am am using the d1 spec volocity meter and limit remover. The instructions are usless, but i know if i can find out the colour or position of that wire i can get it working. marzman
Although to be honest, it's probably a completely different loom if you've got an HR engine and not a DE.
nathanbounce
yes mine is the hr,and i cant find this info anywhere lol.But thanks for trying though
marzman
Okay here is the full service manual. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/350Z/coupe/2007/ Start with idx.pdf as this is the index, and quickly scanning through, section AT.pdf covers the VSS system. nathanbounce
Still no joy guys,There must be someone on yuh that has fitted a speed limit remover to a 2007 import via ecu at some point???? really hit a brick wall now, spent days researching but come up with nothing. It does not show what wires are what for the ecu in the service and repair manuals neither.any idea guys?????? Neilp
most use the hks de limiter or go get an uprev remap at rs tuning, horsham developments and abbey motorsport. Only 3 places in uk that can remap the 350z on standard ecu
nathanbounce
The hks delimiter works in the same way as what i want to do,but i cant even find instructions for fitting one of these to an hr model.
Jez @ H-Dev
The speed signal is via the CAN bus from the ABS ECU to the engine ECU, not just the usual pulsed signal. I've not checked but I expect that the HKS speed limiter remover splices into the CAN bus and changes the data so the ECU never sees the speed go over 112mph. You could try to get the HKS box wired into the CAN signal wires on your HR. Easier (and about the same price I think) to get the ECU reflashed to remove the speed limiter. EDIT: just checked and the HKS device does splice into the CAN bus. HR CAN bus is on pin 113 and 114. Still might not work as the speed data could be on a different CAN ID, byte or on a different scale.
nathanbounce
I am trying to install a d1 spec speed limit removal device, but the instructions are completely useless. It says i have to cut the speed signal wire going to the ecu and conect one wire to loom side and one wire to harness side.it does not give acurate description of the speed signal wire on my car though??? would the pins your refering to be the one im looking for?
Jez @ H-Dev
I don't think that'll work at all. You need the HKS (and that still might not work) or reflash the ECU.
glrnet
I think I'd be walking away from this now if it were me, the fact that there are no instructions out there in www land indicates that it is not easily achieved on a vehicle with can bus
nathanbounce
I'm sure I can get it working if I can find the position of the speed signal wire on my car, is there anywhere I can get the ecu loom diagram for my car guys?
nathanbounce
have you got the info for the hks can bus wireing please jez?
Jez @ H-Dev
HKS can wiring is in my previous post. There isn't a speed signal wire. The ECU gets its speed signal from the ABS ECU via the CAN network. I don't think you'll get it to work.
