JoshThePonce
So here it is, a video finally of what this bad boy actually sounds like But first off, a quick rundown of how it was installed: 1. Unbolt and take off y-pipe and decat pipes 2. Cut about 8 inches off of each decat pipe so the y-pipe can be shifted up to give room for the QTP y-pipe + bypass valve 3. Cut flanges off of the end of the 8 inch cut off decat pipes and weld onto end of shortened decat pipes 4. Bolt shortened decat pipes back on and bolt y-pipe back on 5. Weld in bypass valve + y-pipe where the gap is 6. Wire up bypass valve to a power source (in my case, the headunit) and feed switch into car (in my case, through gear gaitor) and place wherever tickles your fancy, i've personally had it installed in the cubby hole below the headunit so it's out of the way And that's pretty much it, there was a bit of tweaking here and there but that's the basics of how it was installed, the bloke who did the work knows more (a lot more) than me Here's a quick vid of the install so you can see in the flesh what's actually been done: And here's a vid of what it sounds like in comparison to normal This vid doesn't do any justice for how loud it actually is (as the mic automatically dumbs the sensitivity down to prevent distortion), nor does it do any justice for how f***ing awesome it actually sounds, but you get the idea But there we have it, the QTP bypass valve and how it sounds attached through a VQ35DE. Hope you like it, i know i certainly do

CrustyCrab
Looks like a neat job you've done there. I bet that is deafening I had a straight through system for about a week and it was ridiculous
Dblock
Its the choice that it can be loud or not that I think is awesome.
brillomaster
Nice i think that the difference is obvious when with the valve closed, you can only really hear the car once its driven past, but with the valve open you can hear it a quarter mile down the road in both directions! Any chance of some in car footage? just find a nice bit of road and run it once with the valve closed and then again when open!
docwra
Its amazing how good an unsilenced VQ35 sounds, excellent work We managed about 3 hours of motorway driving with the silencer detached before the onset of insanity, its not so bad if you are in town and going round lanes
JoshThePonce
i'll try get some in-car footage today, it's like driving an earthquake with it open
rtbiscuit
i like the popple and bangs on the over run. at some point this is going on to my V8, but i haven't got round to it as i need 2. also going to build side exit exhausts for them to move the sound out from under the car to the sides. i remember husky doing this to his zed. don;t know if it was location or what, but it was an uncomfortable loud, not a good loud. had to drive with the windows down as the revurb in the cabin was ear bleeding. then there were issues with the valve sticking. i would guess it would sound best on a 50/50 setting. Well, the Driftworks BMW with the V10 seems to get by with one rather than two http://vimeo.com/45062985
rtbiscuit
Well, the Driftworks BMW with the V10 seems to get by with one rather than two http://vimeo.com/45062985 yes but his exhaust is a singular pipe after the cats. mine is dual system setup front to back. so no single pipe to cut into, if i only did one side, the exhaust system would be unbalanced and thats not a good thing. rtbiscuit
I think 2 of those on the jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag would sound ridiculous Rich it will sound like this Thats my car running straight from the cats. which is about where the cut outs will go anyway, so the sound will/should be identical to this. Yeah, use two and have the pipes exit just out of sight under where the front wing meets the door
rtbiscuit
Yeah, use two and have the pipes exit just out of sight under where the front wing meets the door thats the plan, they won't be visible, but exit just behind the front wheels. its on the list, but other things need to come first. rtbiscuit
Fair enough Rich Im sure you can wire it so one switch runs both too... still researching all the necessary stuff. last thing i'd want is a horrible rasp out of the exhaust, and i don;t want it to be just noise, but a quality note. exhausts are like instruments, make someting to short or put it in the wrong place and you get a duff note. or a rasp, or drone etc etc etc. all those kind of sounds are due to poor research and bad exhaust building. Neilp
Also worth noting that the exhaust is like the flue of a boiler and the heat and length affects the velocity of the exhaust gases coming from the engine. Changing the length etc could have negative effects rather than positive.
ThriftyFifty
Josh, do you have a direct link to the one you got? Was it the 3" for the Z? I'm curious about installing one of these... would people on the forum be able to help fit it, or am I looking at a professional shop like h-dev who specialise in 350z's? If I had an Ace Torch and welder I would tackle it myself .

It will take a while for my hearing to recover No exhaust is going to be louder than an exhaust regardless of what it is - trust me, Ive tried it. Josh wins Neil - I spoke to Phil @ DW about power loss on NA cars with no backpressure (ie with one of these fitted), he said that its generally a bit of a myth, his V10 found another 50hp with one of these fitted. That said, Im sure mine did feel slower with the backbox off but that might have just been placebo, I dunno
