S1 HNK
Hi guys, picked the car up yesterday and absolutely loving it, the nismo exhaust sounds incredible and its so much lighter to drive than my previous 2004 car. Anyway today I was just at some lights and could hear quite a loud ticking from the engine. It does increase with rpm but obviously you only really hear it on idle. Nothing changes if I depress the clutch (saw this in a previous thread) and I'm a bit concerned as its not just a light tappy sound. I've checked the oil and its good, was only just serviced. Car is a 2007 model - 296bhp. I've attached a video to see if anyone can shed any light on this for me. Any thoughts guys? I'm totally useless when it comes to car mechanics but worried now in case its something serious! Thanks in advance
Dblock
Im not sure but isnt it usually a release or thrust bearing or a fuel damper?
S1 HNK
I did have a search but the ticking people seem to suggest seems quite light and tappety where as this to me sounds a bit stronger than that.
glrnet
Could be a fuel damper, we need zmanalex or Mark fro Abbey to have a listen Im not sure but isnt it usually a release or thrust bearing or a fuel damper?
ZMANALEX
Sounds like fuel damper, get a hold of the fuel line beside the damper on the rear of the engine driver's side and check for pulsing in rhythm with the noise. Alex

Alex Cheers Alex will check it out in the morning and report back if you don't mind. I just know if I take it to a local garage they wont have a clue . Mark@Abbey m/s
Sounds very heavy to me for a fuel damper,if you rev the engine does the noise follow the engine RPM?

It does sound quite heavy, that's why I'm concerned. Yes it seems to although you can't really hear it with decent revs. What you thinking mark? Mark@Abbey m/s
I know it has just been serviced but does the car use oil?
S1 HNK
Don't know, only picked it up yesterday! Could it have had the wrong oil put in?
Mark@Abbey m/s
how long you had the car prior to the service?
S1 HNK
Sorry mark, I meant I only bought the car yesterday! The servicing has all done been done at the correct intervals. You think it could be serious?
Mark@Abbey m/s
Did you buy from a dealer? If so I would be taking it back to be honest. It maybe just a fuel damper but something isn't right.
rm cya
Hey mate, just watched the video. I never noticed anything like that at all, can say for sure it wasn't there with me. I'm very OCD when it comes to noises that shouldnt be there, so I would have noticed that. Parts used at the last service were supplied by zmanalex (so im sure its the correct oil) and were:

rm cya
He didn't buy it from me mate. A trader bought it off me, he bought it off the trader
Darren-B
Sounds a bit like my old Audi which was 2 bent conrods Hope you can get to the bottom of it. I it were mine I don`t think I`d be driving it back to the trader
rm cya
The scare mongering on here is a joke. I seriously doubt it's '2 bent conrods'
onthatB0MBSHELL
Does not sound well, I would be getting it back to the trader to sort, I'm sure you got some sort of warranty by purchasing from a trader. Hope its not to serious and can be sorted quickly with no expense occurred to you, keep us updated please.
Ricey
He never said it was......that was just the noise his car made when it had 2 bend conrods
ZMANALEX
Another thing to check is that all the spark plugs are tight.

I seriously doubt it's '2 bent conrods' He never said it was......that was just the noise his car made when it had 2 bend conrods ^^^ I sincerely hope it`s not anything serious & I`m not in anyway trying to scare monger or diagnose the problem as a bend conrod, It could be any number of things from a fuel damper, a buggered lifter (not sure if the Vq`s have hydraulic lifters), slack timing chain, failed oil pump or a bouncy ball in the rocker cover. Either way it doesn`t sound good & I personally wouldn`t be driving/running the car
Darren-B
Another thing to check is that all the spark plugs are tight. Yes could well be a leaky plug,
rm cya
Torque wrench came out for these. Did the trader put the car into his garage? He didn't like the fact I serviced it so said he's putting it into his garage for a service (I just thought it was bargaining spiel)
