ashyk36
A few months ago I had to change a ballast at the back of my headlight. Since then I now have water in my headlight. The funny thing is that during the day time all the water seems to disappear but at night it comes back again. How do I get rid of this? I've searched and I've found that most people tend to have water inside all the time, however mine comes and goes depending on the day. Its really starting to annoy me now and I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated
DoogyRev
Something is not put back correctly Else the water would not be getting in. I don't remember having water in my headlights
ashyk36
No mine didnt either, the funny thing is it disappears during the day but comes back at night which is confusing. Normally wouldn't the water just stay in there regardless?
DoogyRev
Its called condensation ....... ..... sorry I would take them out, try to find where the moisture is getting in, dry them out thoroughly and re-seal. Might be a slow process, but worth it. The inside of the lenses will start to become dirty the longer you leave it
ashyk36
Yes ive started to notice the inside of the headlight is starting to go dull. How do you suggest drying them? I could open them using the oven trick but from what I hear there a bit hit or miss when put back together again.
DoogyRev
I had moisture in my Reflectors after putting LED's in. So I left them in the airing cupboard for a day or two... dried them out nicely. Are you sure the dullness is on the inside? as Megs Metal Polish works wonders on the outside. I think GLRNET did a post... here you go..... http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=47592&hilit=headlight+clean
ashyk36
When you put them in the airing cupboard did you just put the whole headlight in? Meaning you didn't take the headlight to bits did you? The dullness is coming from the inside of the light, this is the problem
DoogyRev
No did not take to bits Depending on where the moisture is getting in, it might take a day or four to dry out. But you need to find where its getting in first
Neilp
The reason it appears at night is because the ambient temperatures drop, the air inside contains moisture, as it cools you eventually reach dew point where water condenses (condensation) in the air and will lay on surfaces until it warms back up again and the air has the ability to hold the moisture at a higher temperature
ashyk36
I will try this guys. Thanks :-D i doubt i will be able to clean the dullness on the inside :-(
CrustyCrab
...it might take a day or four... Airing cupboard is the best idea unless you are willing to risk it in the oven
simon da silva
when you changed the ballast did you then remember to remove the seal from the old ballast and add it to the new? sounds like its missing..
ashyk36
I definitely put the seal back on as I remember debating to put the old seal back on or the new one. I have got to find someones airing cupboard to borrow. That should be an interesting question to ask

That should be an interesting question to ask I guess you could try a hair dryer, but a) I dont fancy your electric bill after 2 days or the look on the Missus face when its blows up after a few hours You could also turn your heating up to max and just sit in your pants for a few days also. Patch
Silica bag from a shoe box should do the trick, since i don't own a zed,or looked at one yet i can't comment on where this could be placed to draw the moisture out without falling inside the light. Well worth a look though
