taffyjason Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I thought i was a PC geek, but recently i started getting junk e-mail with virus from my own e-mail address, baffled me how they do this, is anyone else getting this? any super geeks know how this is done? Quote
taffyjason Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 but ive done a trace and it comes up as my IP address which really baffles me, ive checked and re checked, there arent any viruses on my pc! Quote
Ricey Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 A quick google reveals that it's a virus that comes from one particular website www.chickspackingmeatintheirslacks.com. Anything to declare? Quote

Ricey Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Sounds like a virus mate. I'd try another virus scan with different software. Try avast Quote
taffyjason Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 well ive tried it in safe mode, ive even used my Laptop to scan the PC, used System Mechanic, Kaspersky rootkit, AVG virus scan and Zonealarm, nothing has shown up, if i have a virus its one hell of a good one! not impossible of course! Fodder Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I cant recommend Avast Anti-virus enough in fact it was recommended to em by our "red team", get it installed and schedule a boot time scan. Sender IP can be obtained by looking at the header of the email although headers can be altered too. Quote
Chris`I Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Probably spoofed headers. Depends if you can get onto your mail server or what your mail provider is like to whether you can check the full headers or not. Its likely that the headers are being spoofed by a spam bot somewhere to make it look like its coming from you. Gmail for one just bins these kinds of mails for me. I get loads that appear to be from me (well my email address, but not my IP) but they go straight to spam box. Gmail also check the IP in the header to the actual server that is sending the mail to work out if they header has been altered. If it does the title of the mail appears in red to show it may be dodgy/phishing/etc Quote

Chris`I Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Out of curiosity, how and what did you use to check the IP of an email? ??? Depends on what you are using. In Gmail you can select "Show Original" from the dropdown and it will show the headers and full mail. I forget how to do it in Outlook, open the mail then View > Options. Headers are displayed in a little box. Quote
Ekona Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Didn't realise the headers showed IPs as well, handy! Cheers mate Quote
370Ad Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Get some decent software on your computer like Norton Internet Security! Quote
