neo
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/370 ... r-370z-way not sure if the above can be believed as it is from autoexpress
DoogyRev
not sure if the above can be believed as it is from autoexpress Would make sense to have a smaller turbo engine to compete with the Toyota....
The Chubby Ninja
I think it would loose the charecter of the zed going to a four cylinder turbo. Think it would be a good replacement for the s15 or s14 tho

buster
The age of big engined GT cars coming to an end was always on the cards.
coldel
Store that 350Z, could be worth a bit in 15 years time!
brillomaster
Nooooo if its not a V6 its not a zed car! turbocharging is fine, but its got to be a v6! None of this 'every man and his dog' with a 4pot turbo approach. Tell you what they should do if they want to get better fuel economy... reduce the engine size to a 3.0 litre V6, and then strap on two ickle turbos for a bit of boooost... Now where have i heard of that before...
Arkwright
Rubbish! Get back to basics. The Proper Z cars are in line straight six. These V6 thingys are only toys. The way forward is smaller engine, smaller body and sensible pricing.
brillomaster
Well alright, i'll compromise that it has to be a 6 cylinder minimum - but im still rooting for a Vee, straight sixes is just so... beemerish. However not sure about smaller and lighter particularly... otherwise it will be a S- car, not a Z- car.
Ekona
Autoexpress are useless. It'll probably weigh 600kg and have a W12 now. It needs to either be cheaper or more upmarket, or the global economy needs to get much better. Just dropping cylinders and the CO2 output won't make a Z car sell. The 350Z was bang on the money when it came out, and even though the 370Z is better in every measurable way it's just not what people want now. Nissan will be watching the BRZ86 (and seeing if the new MX-5 goes FWD to a lesser extent) very closely to see whether it's even worth the bother making a new Z car. rtbiscuit
could even go 5 cylinder like the focus but use a small sc and turbo combined effort, that way you have torque through the rev range like a V engine as the SC does the ground work and the turbo takes over ones its up to boost. means you keep the power, but improve the economy. that or they need to look at making it hybrid with use of electric motors on the front wheels and maybe some form of KERS. Ekona
All too expensive.
rtbiscuit
hence why they're putting a 4 pot turbo jobbie in
Ekona
That's my point though, it won't be enough. As has said, it either needs to be an S-car or go significantly up market to justify the cost.
rtbiscuit
can you see nissan making the zed more up market? if you up the price is it not then competing with the GTR?
rtbiscuit
i can see them making the zed a 4 pot and making the 200 a competitior with things like the MX5 etc
Stew
can you see nissan making the zed more up market? if you up the price is it not then competing with the GTR? The GTR now costs twice that of a 370Z. They won't compete. To make a Z car upmarket they need to sort the interior out. Get premium german grade plastics etc. The 370Z looks great, Interior is nice but quality could be better and if it was then it'd be excellent. coldel
Who is to say the 370z is it, maybe until another 15/20 years time when they do another big engined one - its happened before...
Ekona
That would be my take on it too. Assuming the BRZ86 takes off, they'll produce an S-car and ditch the Z-cars for now. No point trying to sell a car no-one wants to buy.

haytonz
i think nissan have totley lost plot thinking of doing that to a zed and thinking off producing this http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=nissan ... 2,s:0,i:79 but they have also said they will make this http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=nissan ... ,s:47,i:
Stew
i think nissan have totley lost plot thinking of doing that to a zed Nissan are a business and as such have to produce what is profitable for them. If the Zed is not profitable enough for them then they'd be silly as a business to continue manufacturing it.
John tarantula
4 pot turbo definitely closer to the S bodies! nothing wrong with a new one of those though easier to get higher figures!
brillomaster
oh yeah it is a crying shame that the UK never got the S15! Although the Z33 is obviously better... an S16 would be a very good thing, as long as they do it right with a 6 speed manual, RWD and a slippy diff. KyleR
I don't mind if they chop out 2 cylinders, so long as power doesn't have to be sacrificed. For example, Porsche has designed a new 2.4L flat 4 turbocharged to 360BHP. Nissan could do something similar...
