neo-ninja
Hi All, I couldnt really find anything relevent on Google for this so thought i would ask here, my company is about to move in 1 years time its offices, they have not stated where to, only that they have given notice, and are starting the process. Now the company i work for does not have the best reputation for doing everything by the books and have implied that they can move anywhere they want and if we dont like it we can leave. My argument is that I have just bought a house 10 mins away from work and have budgeted my lifestyle around that for the last year or so. I couldnt afford to move house and i do not live near a station with a carpark. So my question is what happens if they move to somewhere that is A quite far away (there is talk of places that would be 1 hours drive for me around 16 miles) or B somewhere that doesnt have parking so i would need to drive to a station with a car park (closest one is 30 mins) and then get a train to work. Where do i stand legally? Can i ask for a fuel card or more money or something? Or parking permits or fees?
Ricey
Limited understanding........you don't have a leg to stand on. If its an unreasonable distance away then I think they can/have to make you redundant or there is a potential call for constructive dismissal (i.e you have to leave because its too far away) but I'm not 100% sure on that. neo-ninja
Well that sucks i guess, doesnt seem fair they can do that.
mbs
It's all down to what your contact of employment states - see below http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/employment/ ... g_10028541
coldel
Thats happened a few times at companies I have worked at, mostly though they have tried their best to be placed as close to where they are now and if they do move further away that its as close to as many of the employees as possible. I don't think legally you can do anything, if its too far you will have to come to an agreement with them as to a financial settlement to leave I would suspect. Ricey
Actually I think thats very good advice. I think thats what applies to me because my contract has all these very loose statements about 'we can make you work a million hours a week if we feel like it but your core hours are 37.5' 'we can relocate you at a months notice and if you don't like it then kiss our collective hoop'......etcetc.
neo-ninja
The .gov link for a change makes it quite clear actually. Thanks for that!

Flex
The .gov site is pretty comprehensive for lots of stuff, I was going to suggest citizens advice centre too for 1 to 1 advice. Also you can call ACAS they will talk to you over the phone for free too.
