PeterW
6p a litre off at Morrisons, so 123.9p per litre. One problem - they don't do Super Unleaded!! Worth it? What's the risk?
coldel
Run it on super, thats what the handbook says, normal unleaded will ultimately do bad things to your internals.

PeterW
Anyone technical know the risks? I know a few diesel cars that have been killed by using red diesel - no lubricant in it or something - what's the deal with unleaded vs super? Just mapping? Neilp
I cant believe that people still spend 20 odd k on a car and then scrimp a few pence on a litre of fuel. I put a tank of v-power in her the other day and it was 140p a litre, still I didnt grudge it as I paid 20k for the car and an extra 7 quid a tank of fuel or whatever it works out it is worth the satisfaction that my engine is getting looked after and run properly. That how much its been discussed and tested by various tuners etc watching for knock while mapping normal unleaded on the various vq engines Why scrimp a couple of quid a tank on something so expensive?? PeterW
Think it's about £3 a tank difference usually... but hate having vouchers and giving them to our lass... Fancy knowing what the technical difference is though as I no-one seems to know. From the sounds of everyone's responses I should have asked the Pope if I should wear a condom.... If you READ the threads you will see the knock detection on various cars on the dyno. You havent bothered your arse and have come on here with an attitude as if we have the problem. Its your car, scrimp if you want, at the end of the day you've already made up your minds by the sounds of it. FFS

I think that is pretty inappropriate and as others have said... if you use the search button properly and take the time to look at it properly then you will find all the technical information. OR you know what.... just put it in your zed and see what happens

coldel
OK easy fellas Peter, as much as a forum is great for getting knowledge, the same questions have been asked hundreds of times, it wears people in the end having to answer it hundreds of times over. Lots of encouragement here to get new users to get used to navigating the forum to find the info they need, yes its a bit of a faff at first but ultimately its quicker for users to dig in and find what they need rather than sticking up new posts every time they need an answer to it - this forum is a brilliant database, its worth the time to get used to it
Neilp
Sorry mate. No attitude intended, only wanted friendly advice. Thought one of you guys might have had an answer in a few seconds, rather than pages. Yeah but how do you think we find it? We arent experts we all search to find stuff. If every person on here posted up a new thread for every question the place would be, and is, littered with duplicate threads. This is what causes the massive searches as now when somebody searches for similar this thread will now pop up and they will have to trawl through this thread also to find out theres no relevant info. The general consensus is that when nissan put a badge on the fuel tank saying minimum ron= ** they have done this for a reason. The normal fuel causes knock issues and causes the engine to run poorly. If it was ok to use nissan would have said use it... but they don't and they also don't get commission from fuel companies for it also
PeterW
Great link. Thanks. key sentence: " If the fuel you got was of a lower octane rating than that demanded by the engine's compression ratio and spark advance detonation could result and cause the types of failures previously discussed." So you can properly knack it then! Looks like Mrs W will be saving some cash on her diesel then...
rtbiscuit
also worth noting that if you do run on 95 ron it has a similiar affect as cutting some of the engine power from the engine. also what you spend in extra cash on super you get back in extra miles. so it works out about the same in price. so its better to run it on the proper stuff. The 370z aswell as the late 350z had full knock control throughout the rev range so you will NOT damage your engine. You might get lower mpg and you will have less power. So there to all the people who bang on about search.
Chris`I
I *think* 95RON will be fine in the 370z as the knock sensor works throughout the rev range. This assumes the engine can cut enough timing off the map to stop the knock though. Dont know for sure and wont know until someone gets one on a dyno with it to see. You will definately lose power and also MPG. To be safe I'd run the car on the fuel Nissan specify.

Otherwise it should always be 98ron +, as Nissan and the informed professionals on here state for both the 350s and 370s. The discussion thread DoogyRev posted ^^^ will help your understanding
