Shaneygoose
Hi there I started my 350 up last week and it was spluttering and a bit fumey out the back end. I was off to a wedding so I had to leave the car at home and look at it the next day. I'm no expert but at the time it seemed like not all cylinders were firing properly. Dodgy plug? When I started it again the next day, the engine was running smoothly again but a loud ticking noise has developed from the engine. Its speed increases with engine revs but it does not get any louder. I took it to my local Nissan garage who did a diagnostic check but no faults appeared and they were not entirely sure what the problem is. They say the noise is coming from the left bank and think its either the little ends or valve gear. They reckon its going to cost me in excess of £1000 and even then it could cost me more because they wont know what the actual problem is until they take the engine apart. Its back home now and luckily I have access to another car. My Dads quite handy around a car so we are going to see what we can do next week but he is more used to classics than modern engines. he thinks it sounds like the tappets or injectors. Has anyone else had a similar problem to this? Alternatively does anyone know of any garages that specialise in 350z's in the Portsmouth area? Thanks
Zugara
Fuel solenoid valves clacking I think.
glrnet
It could be the fuel solenoid gaskets need changing, Zman suggested this to me before I discovered the source of my engine noise last year. It might be worth checking the fuel dampers too, they tick when they fail, if it is a damper you should be able to feel the ticking by holding the pipe that leaves the the damper with the engine running I have two dampers, if you need one let me know. Fuel solenoid valves clacking I think.
