twobears
I've got a smallish rip on one side of the roof of my roadster (please see photos attached of ripped and non ripped sides) that's leading to a lot of wind noise in the cabin and which is only, I assume, going to get worse with time. There are patches on both sides of the roof which I am guessing are not normally there? The patches keep coming unstuck. I have taken the car back to the dealership twice and they have replaced the roof seal because I had water coming in through the driver's window and they have also stuck down the patches, to no avail. Every time I put the roof down the patches come unstuck immediately. I have been back to the garage again this week and they shrugged their shoulders and said that there was nothing that they could do. Obviously, I wasn't happy with that and they have since offered to replace the roof at a cost of £1,100 They said that they would pay half the cost themselves. I really don't know what to do. It is still an awful lot of money. The car is still (just) under warranty. What will a new roof consist of? Just the fabric? I am fed up of talking to the dealership so I thought I would ask you knowledgeable folk for your thoughts. I don't want to pay for a new roof and find that it falls apart the first time I put it down but, equally, the ripped bit and patches looks horrible. Any ideas please? Will370z
Sorry to hear you are still having hassles with the roof. Those patches are definitely not supposed to be there and that looks like one heck of a rip. its good that the garage are offering to pay half. The roof material is not covered by the warranty unlike the mechanics so they could have just said they wont do anything. The roof on my old 350 looked like it was starting to split but over the 2 years i had it it held but i looked into replacing the roof. You can get it done much cheaper than nissan and also id rather take it to a specialist to get it done rather than nissan. More than likely they will just ship it off to a local bodyshop and get them to do it I will try and find links to the places i was looking at and id give them a call for some advice. Short term solution have you tried the storm sure on the patches to see if that holds. However due to the amount of movement im sure it wont hold long. If i were you i would call a specialist for advice then bite the bullet and get a new roof and ask if the garage will pay half. It sucks but the garages offer is generous and the problem wont go away with a quick fix. Hope you get it sorted.
Ekona
Two options: 1. Accept offer from garage and go halves on a new roof (£550 cost is very good value). 2. As the car is still under warranty and the garage has tried to repair it at no cost to you (meaning they accept that it is a fault and needs sorting), then they should replace it entirely at their cost. If they refuse, which I assume they will, then go through SCC to sort it. Option 2 is clearly the winner, however it's clearly going to take a while to get it sorted that way. You may be better off in regards to time and effort, but not financially, to take option 1. If you do go for option 2, make sure you get everything in writing, and that your warranty with them definitely covers the roof being replaced. twobears
Thanks Will and Ekona I'm decided to go up to the garage again in the morning to see if I can get things sorted out satisfactorily and at the least possible cost to me. I've had a few problems with the car and had been starting to feel a bit ground down by it all and wondering if I should just put my head in the sand but I feel ready to do battle again tomorrow!
