John tarantula
As I'm getting older I'm getting more inclined to spend a bit more on a decent tipple than just drinking stuff to get tipsy! Also my taste is changing and I can't drink any of the super sweet spirits i used to (Sambuca, Drambuie, other sickly stuff!). Favourite spirits are a good Bourbon (Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam Triple Aged), pretty much any Cachaca and a good bit of rum! My birthday tommorow so my lovely wife bought me a bottle of this which i tasted yesterday:http://www.rndrumreviews.com/RnDRumReviews/Abuelo_Centuria.html review is a bit poncy but it really is some of the nicest rum I've tasted ever! extremely smooth, lots of flavour and the taste lasts a long time. Had to stop yself drinking too much! It isn't cheap but for once it isn't overpriced marketing rubbish and and actually THAT good. So good infact i promptly bought another bottle online after 1 sip. One to save for very special occassions! Anyone else have any favourites???
Jay
I am normally a Jim Beam man, but my fiancee and I were on holiday in Barbados when we tried Mount Gay rum, which comes from the Island and WOW... I am hooked Yes its not exactly the best name in the world but its not too expensive and certainly goes down a treat http://www.mountgayrum.com/

docwra
I mainly drink Havana Club as its easy to get hold of - the 7 year old is exceptional, nicer than the 12, 15 and Cuban Barrel Proof IMO.
martinmac
I used to work in Guyana and paid £1-80 for a bottle of five year old with 20p back on the bottle. I find most of the modern rums too sweet now but love it with ginger beer and a twist..

John tarantula
never had a mojito! Need to get on it I think. Do love Caipirina though which is pretty close
Jay
Caipirini's can be really sugary tho..... just stick to plain old rum with a bit of ice
John tarantula
I make them myself and add just enough sugar to take the tang off but not rot my teeth! Good rum (or cachaca) has to be straight or with ice I'm sudenly getting a strange craving for a drink. Shame I've driven to work today! Leeroy
Looks like a nice rum Tarantula, will have to check it out. For a white rum I like Wray and Nephew - far, far superior to Bacardi. I also like Mount Gay, Havana Club (5 or 7) and Appleton Estate - it does make you thirsty thinking about it! My dad likes his rum too, but he's partial Woods or Pussers which are overproof badboys.......
John tarantula
Cool some nice suggestions for the list! got a bottle of this over Christmas and as nice as it tasted was too strong to drink straight http://www.masterofmalt.com/rum/goslings-black-seal-151-proof-rum/
martinmac
In my innocence I didnt know what a mojito was but was being fed them at an international food festival in Spain. They were in pint glasses and very refreshing. Temperature in the high 30s and no shelter. It got a little messy.
