docwra
M5's and M6's are nice but hella thirsty, Id go down a slot and look at a 4 door E92 M3, IS-F or an XFR. All three are astonishingly good, potentially the best cars in the world at the moment and can be picked up for the right side of £30K
R35LEE
M6 is an awesome car and they are so much car for the money now! 200mph derestriced and I think they look the nuts!. RS4 or S5 are also good options
ph 7
some alternatives.... First a stupid one: Vauxhall VXR8 6.2 V8 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 7466210368 VW Phaeton 3.0 V6 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 8468536372 Jag XK 3.0 Convertible http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 3474456049 But If I was going cheaper I'd go straight to Alfa territory. 3.2 GT (I almost bought one of these instead of the Zed!) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 6476766554 Alfa 159 3.2gt http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 9469972372 Moving up the price bracket but still half your budget.... Giulietta http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 7467235176 Another phaeton but much cheaper http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 9469677026 All of the previous suggestions are great....I'd strongly consider the M5...or any 5 series for that matter. Must stop looking at cars!

I didnt even look at the link for the Giulietta, thats not even in the same postcode.
rabbitstew
One problem when you have 30k to spend is the wide choice out there. There is just so much to choose from!!! I started off looking at the v8 M3`s, then figured I may as well keep my 313 350z as the running costs of an M3 wont be cheap. Then I noticed a nearly new high spec EVO well within the same price range and considered that for a while. Even stuff like Range Rover sports, a virtually new Evoque, various Porsches. In the end I decided I had to be sensible, so started looking at cars with lower running costs and better fuel economy. Even then the choice is huge.... So I put a range of different cars from 25k down to 5.5k I think was the really cheapest, going for odities. I got carried away with the alfas granted, I have a soft spot for them. Now I am in a similar position... but I find 30k just isnt enough for the cars that I am looking at I have decided to stay with my 370z for now until I can afford a little more and then get the car that I actually want... but hey god knows what will happen in a few months

You're not kidding...it is bad enough when you are looking around any price but as you go up it is too hard. At 30K I would be stuck between allsorts: Jag 5.0 v8 xj.....i love it, and that body shape will look great for years http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 471506298/ or as the head over heart kicks in even the diesel version http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 467745417/ but then of course you hit the GTR.....it has 4 seats...perfect family car! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 476076826/ I suppose you could look at classic cars that wont lose value???? How about this as a daily drive? E-type 2+2 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 2409146309
Dblock
When your spending 30k on a car. Are you guys paying cash? I don't think I could ever spend more than £15k on a car. £15k to me is expensive. Even at that price there is a hundred different cars I want.

Even at that price there is a hundred different cars I want. £15Kish cash/deposit, the other £15K as a loan or finance. I know where you are coming from but I own a company, Im hitting mid thirties and going to business meetings/posh events in either a widearch 350Z with massive chrome wheels, a sheddy looking Peugeot 306 GTI-6, an MR2 or a driftcar isnt really on, people will think you are a drug dealer, tramp, gaylord or complete idiot, respectively. To get something thats less than 5 years old (so it doesnt go wrong), 400hp or more (so I dont think its slow) and at least some semblance of being refined (so it actually gets used) aint cheap sadly
Jay
I am the same about 14k cash and the rest on finance. That was one of the reason's I got rid of my modded 350z as I was turning up to meetings and they could hear me from about a mile away So I have the 370z now which is alot more tame and refined. Although I might be getting a Nissan Navara for work soon

gangzoom
Had the same problem 18months or so ago...I had a budget of £25-30K (including what ever PX I got for the Z) theres was so much choice...Impreza/EVOs/M3/M5 etc.. It really easy to get carried away, but I always reminded my self that a lot of these cars were £45K+ machine with running costs to match. Ended up spending under £20K for my 335i...my logic was the money I saved can be used for sensible things other than cars....but thanks to Mitz/Andy I seem to have allocated most of it for mods If I was do it again, would probably still go for a 335i.....or S4 or M3 or a XJ... Although I might be getting a Nissan Navara for work soon Firstly I've got a 61 plate Navara Tekna Connect. Great vehicle, love it as much as the 350, but for obvious different reasons. Will be keeping the Zed as my weekend fun vehicle (no room for kids ) Obviously I'll continue with a little light zeditis every so often The new vehicle will be for family reasons. All of us in one vehicle at one time, with a little more refinement than turning up looking like Pikeys in a pickup Following your suggestions if I had any sense I'd be going 4 door minimum (but those of you that have read other things I've written will realoise I haven't much sense)! I like the S5 and the RS4, but the Jag is a pretty good call and not considered one of those so it's now on my list. As for the money, strictly notes..... Not keen on finance to be honest, but then I'm older than the majority of you and therefore don't have as long left to pay it off Keep the ideas coming guys. 3 possibilities now, and decision time is aimed at early September. Thanks Paul

rabbitstew
When your spending 30k on a car. Are you guys paying cash? I don't think I could ever spend more than £15k on a car. £15k to me is expensive. Even at that price there is a hundred different cars I want. Depends... its amazing how your opinion changes. I never ever used to see the point in spending more than 5k on a car. For that I could get a quite a range of cars which suited me. Then I had some good fortune with a new job, saved some money and I bought the zed... for cash... and believe me, that took some getting my head around, forking out £15k for a car!!! But, once you break through that barrier, it gets easier. I had the same problem as docwra, im a company director and rocking up at a customers site in an ear splittingly loud 350z doesnt always give the customer the right impression. Not to mention 23mpg and the mental running costs it was costing me as a daily runner. I looked at all the options and the cheapest way to get me in a new (or virtually new being 6 months old) more "appropriate" car was to pay cash for it. I was lucky id been saving up for a while and could afford it. Otherwise, id have got a loan from my bank and paid it off over a couple of years. Rather than think of it as a huge some of money im throwing away, i saw it as money invested in a car and i`ll get a load of it back when I sell it. So, i looked more at the overall estimated cost to me over the period of time i`ll be keeping the car. One problem with paying "cash" though, is that debit cards have a transaction limit on them of £30k per day. So, bare that in mind when you hand the dealer your card if the car is more than £30k. Your`ll have to pay for it over 2 days...
ph 7
You still arent really getting this are you ph? Have we suggested Maseratis yet? Haha , I was just playing around with autotrader late last night and trying to throw some rediculousness in to the equation. But remember Point taken on maintenance costs and maintenance issues..... good to know too. The Maseratis would be worst on costs! Would be lovely though. I'm not keen on the Quatroporte, much prefer the slightly older gransport
