ashyk36
Even if you tether data from another android phone to use google maps, the tablet does not have built in gps. Have you got an external gps to make navigation work?

MattyV6
Loving this!! A car PC is on my to-do list currently for the Zed. But Android Tablets are definitely starting to become more appealing! I would still love a full blown PC though just for the extra possibilities, but there is a lot of extra cost & complications.
alanmc
How did you manage the On/Off button? I know you can get programs that put it into a deep sleep when the charger is disconnected (engine off), and wake up when the charger comes on (engine on). But what about those times when the battery runs down and the device shuts down completely?
KyleR
Even a iPhone ? Depends which iPhone I think, but on the 4s you go into settings and then personal hotspot, that should do it for you. +1 on the guide, i'd love to have this, my cubby is basically a duster and window pad thing holderer, it deserves so much more. JackStrong
Also you said it was perfect fit but what about the buttons of the archos, relocate or don't you need them? Am really interested in this. Also is it possible to get the device to automatically startup a application, like a sat nav etc or possibly a menu screen enlarged for car use. Get sat nav to work with it
scottyd
The tablet does wake when charging, you just need to lock it or use deep sleep if left overnight. I faced the power button board forward, drilled a hole and used a small bit of black rod as a button. That bit is on the right of the photo with the nylon bolt holding it in place. I could take more photos if you wish I've had to remove the screen to reglue it, don't use a glue gun it melted with the heat yesterday
popeacute
i really want to do this too.... been looking at tablets seen this : http://yamaytech.en.alibaba.com/product ... et_pc.html think it has all the right specs, but i can't find one for sale anywhere or even this one with less specs but woudl do the job: http://fastgo.en.alibaba.com/product/52 ... ction.html so thinking of a dropad a8t, but costing a bit more...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dropad-A8T-Ul ... 871wt_1163 but would really like one around £70, just to keep costs down..but that's just dreaming to find one with , 7in,gps,bluetooth,1280x600,1ghz up,1gb ram. The archos 70 looks alright, i have a arnova(archos) 10g2 with gingercomb(custom rom) on it, they are good kit. Maybe go for one of them. a rough guide for doing this would be great as others have stated.

I'd pick up a second hand tablet off of ebay as you'll be ripping it apart anyway, true the 70 isn't amazing but it does what I need it to. Guides can be found online to dissasemble the archos 70 then it's really just a case of making it fit your sat nav cubby
MattyV6
Im looking at doing this with my standard cubby. I think if I can get enough room it will work well as the lid of the cubby will shield the screen from sun glare. We'll see lol. Anyway, are you using any software for a CarPC-like Front End on the Android device? I've been searching but cant seem to find anything decent. I know Centrafuse is the king, but thats only for Windows it seems (even though their site states it can be developed for ARM & Linux, so no reason there couldnt be an Android version )
