AK350Z
Agree with Sandwich. At that low mileage, it's highly unlikely that a bit of 95ron now and again has damaged the engine. The good thing about the Zed is that very few drivers feel the need to rev the engine as all the torque is available from low rpm. If the rest of the car is worth the money, buy it! daveparkin
You my good sir are not wrong.. I do as 12-15k is alot of # to me tbh.. I perspire and panic when spending 40 quid.. You are not going to enjoy visiting a petrol station in a zed, then....

14N
From how you've described the car, the honesty the current owner has given you regarding the fuel he's used and the advice you've been given here, personally, I'd buy it - before somebody else does! Don't let it be the one that got away.
cmck13
Aviation fuels cheaper at the moment but it dont half leave a trail of smoke, if you can get seven you can do a Z impression of the red arrows show.

Spending in the right way does not bother me, and fuel for the beast is fine so are very good tyres and very good breaks and the best maintenance etc.. Agreed, I'm a spirited driver and have had plenty of cross country hoons in my three months of ownership so far, but I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've exceeded 5000rpm, such is the swell of torque available around 3.5 - 4k. docwra
All this scaremongering is bloody annoying. Whats actually annoying is seeing a load of people who arent really quite sure what they are on about giving advice on an issue that they arent sure about either. Having lost engines to detonation myself, and knowing theres no way of telling what damage has already been caused I definitely wouldnt be risking the £3K+ repair bill if something is going to drop. People still bang on about clicking axles like they are the antichrist, but what actually happens with them? Your axles click, big deal. Ive just lost an SR20 bottom end because a ring broke up, probably from damage caused before I put the engine in my car, certainly not from me running it, but hey, its not as bad a as few clicks at low speed is it? Guess what as well - SR20's also have knock detection but for some reason it didnt seem to work in this case, like it didnt on the EJ20 and CA18 Ive also lost through detonation. All Im saying is go in with your eyes open, manufacturers dont tend to reccommend a higher octane fuel just for a chuckle. Chances are the engine would be fine, hell, Id probably even bet on the fact you wont see problems but if someone openly admitted using the wrong grade of oil youd walk away, wouldnt you? How relevant is you losing three engines that are not 350z engines? None. Until there are hundreds of 350z engines going pop through detonation, as opposed to one that we actually know of, then it's scare mongering. docwra
But if 99% of the people who have 350Z's listen to what Nissan said and use the right fuel then theres not going to be hundreds of failures, is there?
Sarnie
Of course not but the number of people who have ever owned a 350z and ONLY put in super won't be anywhere near 99%. Therefore as a huge number of people will have used 95ron fuel, and still there is only one known case of a blown engine, it's unproven therefore if it's unproven; it's scaremongering. I ran 95ron in both of my zeds, and they are still going strong
370Ad
Just make sure you put super in to get 100% of the power and it will be fine. I don't understand why people put 95 in for that reason alone!

KyleR
The offset in price is paid back in improved MPG, to me that's the main reason for using Super until its proven that using 95 can damage the engine.

Neilp
I use 100 power alot mainly as my car very rarely sees a normal road. Usually only track although to be fair I have had her out on the roads a couple of times.
Dblock
Does the HR not have knock detection to the red line. If so its still not ideal but any damage would be minimal and not noticeable on a 20k mile car.
