Squee
"Stripey brand" remaps: is it guaranteed to end in tears with a blown up engine and me in floods of tears? I'm guessing it's a three-lettered answer starting with 'y' but just interested to hear others' experiences. I'm not on about the ones you do yourself with a little gadget bought on eBay but the ones local 'performance specialists' do for <£300. Thanks! S. edit - sorry if anyone got excited by the title and thought tesco were actually offering the service (although can't be long now til they have it covered )

Squee
Not herd of Zebra before hehe, sorry for the confusion. I'm good at confusing people, especially myself! I just wondered what people's experiences are with getting cheapy remaps? Some of my friends with dirty diesels have had bargain bin mapping done and are thrilled. Obviously the Zed is a totally different kettle of fish and I'm not seriously thinking of it for myself - just wondering what the likelihood of the engine exploding is? These lads have an offer on - all remapping £200 this month - http://ecotechperformance.co.uk/nissan/ - and kinda got me thinking! s. rtbiscuit
an engine is an engine at the end of the day; the zed works on internal combustion just like any other car and uses a mix of fuel, spark and air to make it go. the quality of a remap is down to the person doing it. there are 2 places known for doing zeds RSTuning up near you and Abbey motorsport how good the tune depends on how good the tuner is, the zed in NA form is not an easy car to extract the power out of. and acutally the price being quoted isn't far off what you'd pay at abbey or RST also from memory you need special software for pulling the zeds maps. a bad map can lean out an engine to far and course it to pink out and possibly over heat or cause bad damage. Ekona
Will just be a Superchips remap, that's about right for one of them. Only as good as the mapper, but usually they'll play it very safe on stuff like that.
TEMPERZ
Modern diesels are easy to remap, basically add more fuel and then just bring up the boost burn all the fuel. Hi-tech petrol engines like the VQ arent that simple, you have to deal with timing, detonation, vvt, fueling etc etc. Its a true specialist job, dont let anyone touch the car who isnt a specialist, like Abbey Motorsport. Squee
Thanks all For some reason I thought RS were another southern outfit - have just found their site on google so will check them now Interesting you say that the price I said isn't too far off what I'd pay from a professional. Earlier today when I started flirting with the idea I looked on Horsham's site and they were about £530. Thanks again! S.

For bog-standard diesel things that a Superchip can change that quoted price is fine, but for the Zed you need different software which is why the cost is higher. Squee
Thanks again all and cheers Jez for confirming the price - must have been getting the prices confused with something else and having a blonde moment I think I'll shelve the idea of the cheapies and save my pennies for the proper UpRevvy job S.
