GTR WOULD YOU?

HI All,

I keep seeing GTRs online and how cheap they are becoming, you now regularly see the older 2008/2009 models for £30-35k which keeps making me think if you could get 5-10k for your car and then take out a 4 year loan.

Payments are only around £500-600 a month.

Makes me very tempted (although im not a fan of car loans) it would mean i could have another of my dream cars!

Would you consider it? I know servicing is £500-£700 every 6 months but its not that bad, our servicing is already £150 - £200 every year or so.

know what you mean about buying but beware the sting in the tail, the GT-R still has supercar running costs !

Is £1000 a year on servicing really that high, i didnt think so.

Also fuel is more or less the same as ours.

Tires are pricey but not that much more are they really, and should last you easily 15k miles or normal driving.

Insurance is barely anything more.

There must be something im missing, as it seems to be very cheap for probably one of the greatest cars out there.

I've been thinking the very same thing recently.

Also saw that the V8 Vantage is at a similar price point. Ludicrous running costs for either I expect.

I am potentially that stupid though :bangin:

But thats the thing v8 you get for around £35k with 30-40k miles on teh clock. £35k on a GTR you can find one with only 10k miles quite easily.

That's not realistic costs. The last time Paul on here for his services it cost 2400 and then another 2k for 4 tyres.

If a gearbox fails who pays to fix it?

These are cheap for a reason. The running costs are astronomical...

I was talking to a chap at Nissan a while ago.

He said....

Brake pads and disks £4k

Carbon underbody diffuser £4k

The diffuser is prone to damage via speed bumps and the like.

Like Neil says they are cheap for a reason.

Not just expensive to run but expensive to repair. The slightest bump at the front end sets off what's called the pedestrian system which has to be replaced as it's a one use device. 11k to repair what to us would be a £500 job at most.

The only way really would be to buy a low mileage one, do naff all miles and sell it after 18 months or so :)

I've been reading sbout running costs of an R35 and while they are high, they're not as high as some people make out. Once the cars out of its 3 year warranty youre better of getting it serviced at a specialist such as Middlehurst or Litchfield whose prices are much more reasonable!

The £11k repair bill was an error, Nissan have changed the price of replacing the system apparently. It's still expensive if you do hit someone but for around £70 you can get something which disables the bonnet popup in a collision.

Running costs are higher than you are budgeting for. But a 4 year loan? For a car? I wouldn't do it personally.

If its out of warranty, what happens when it goes wrong? It'll be another £5k loan!

Seriously, when I've had the Zed serviced at the local Nissan HPC, the GTR Master Mech there tells me some scary stories about the huge repair bills warranty companies have picked-up on GTRs he has worked on! I know they don't all break, but worth considering all the same!

And the rest :scare:

Seriously they are cheap for a reason. Many people thought they were a bargin at ~£60k and still selling them on due to high running costs. This is a supercar with supercar costs. Think any different and you are kidding yourself.

Had you said "I have £35k sitting in the bank that I want to spend" then you could go for it knowing that if it goes wrong you sell it on and lose some dosh. But when you have a 4yr commitment to it, I wouldnt do it personally.

Sounds stupid but I prefer the 370z as a better package. Much more usable fun to be had, a lot cheaper to run, and RWD. Performance isnt even in the same universe, but you could get a second hand 370z and TT/SC it, after all its only 100CC less than a GTR :drive1:lol:

BWAHAHAHA no. You'll never get 15K miles out of a set of tyres on a GTR, hell I don't get that on the 911 and it's much lighter on the tyres. To be fair though, you'd be mad to buy the OEM tyres again as they're silly money, a set of R888s is cheaper I believe. Even better would be the MPSS if they come in the correct size. Brakes aren't cheap either, and being a heavy car it will eat those up too.

A GTR is a fantastic car, and the running costs aren't any worse than something like a 997 Turbo S, but it's all about the unknown costs as has been said. If you can extend the Nissan warranty that gives you bumper to bumper cover, then it's not something to worry about as you'll be covered. If you can't though, then that's when you're looking at the big bucks for carbon bits and expensive oily bits, which is why I have a warranty on the 911 because I can't afford to drop £15K if the gearbox blows up. Paying £1K pa for that peace of mind is worth it to me.

At £35K there's a whole heap of other cars I'd rather buy that would be as much if not more fun to drive, as you won't be worried about the servicing costs. Absolute performance isn't everything, not any more with The Man and his net closing in all the time.

I was trying not to be too scary with the hypothetical repair bill, but the GTR Mech I was talking to did once mention £18k for a gerabox problem on a car less than 1 year old....

Wonder what insurance would be?

Less than the 350z in my case. When I was looking at quotes earlier in the year, the 350z came in at about 900quid and yet a 40grand GTR was coming in at 660quid. I think its because its 4wd rather than RWD and statistically less have been crashed.
