hawker1986
Hi guys, Im new to the forum, I was just after some advice regarding a purchase of a 350z second hand. Essentially the Mrs and I are looking for something sporty and have both always really wanted one. We are aware of the costs involved and they should not be a problem to us. Now we have seen one that we are keen on but I was after some advice. Essentially its a 2005 UK GT model. 31085 on the clock. Outside it is immaculate, only a few stone chips on the front and inside is the same. The chap who owns it seems pretty genuine and is selling as he has just got a bike and license and doesnt need two weekend vehicles. Now the problems with it are one the HPI check which has shown this: Now the mileage discrenacy occurs (32000-23000) when he performed his HPI check and appears to have put in 32000 instead of 23000 as a typo. Ive read lots of reports about NMR being inaccurate etc and the MOT history is as such: 29/03/2012 - 30,844 Miles 22/03/2011 - 23,176 Miles 31/03/2010 - 19,700 Miles 26/03/2009 - 16,155 Miles 21/02/2008 - 11,875 Miles Which is all in keeping with things, so im not concerned the car has been clocked. The second problem is that there is a large gap in the service history, it only has 2 early stamps, his reason for this is that the previous owners and himself have had it serviced through work and the books didnt get stamped. It has just been serviced and MOT'd and the book will be stamped for the service 2 weeks ago. The price weve come to is £8500. So basically my question is is there anything here that should make me walk away, the car is genuinely in immaculate condition and ran fine on the test drive we did. Thoughts would be most welcome. Many thanks, Hawker
Zugara
See those dangley things under your bum, use them in a form called walking. Walk away, walk away walk away. There are plenty of good examples about.
ATTAK Z
I wouldn't walk away but I'd get ssomeone who knows more about the Zed to ask the right questions and look the car over ... then I'd haggle a bit if the answers gave me confidence ... whereabouts is the car ? Oh and welcome to the club

Chesterfield
I wouldnt necesarily walk away. If the car is good, and you can haggle the price of a service of the cost of the car, and it checks out OK with someone who knows the Zed, then it could be a car to buy. You can then get it serviced, make sure you keep all the MOT history in order to denounce the Mileage history from HPI and you could find its a decent car. If its something that worries you at all and you would rather have one without these issues, then you will be able to find other examples that fit the bill Im sure. Dave J
The NMR check is not always accurate but bear in mind unless you get the error corrected it could cause you grief when you come to re-sell. I recently exported a Nissan 200SX with a 'mileage discrepancy' that had the most comprehensive service history i'd ever seen!! It was obviously an error along the way, my customer was fine with it but as said i'd try to use it to lower the price
Clown
I take it you don't trust the OcUK lot?
rich-350
im sure theres a lot of people on here who know zeds really well and can give you good advice. my only warning would be if your not totally satisfied with your choice then shop around. nothing worse than having a seed of doubt that turns out to be true and leaves you kicking yourself with a sour taint to what should be a happy purchase. there are lots of really nice zeds around, find one ur happy with and love it. rich
hawker1986
I take it you don't trust the OcUK lot? Lol, no harm getting some more opinions. I have further proof this NMR is a load of old rubbish, because they have updated their system with the mileage information I gave on my HPI check now. I am going to get the AA to come and do an inspection on it, this should give us peace of mind along with the most recent service stamp. Many thanks again for all your input. ATTAK Z
A good question to ask the seller is has it been run on 98 ron fuel? ... 350 Zs don't like 95 ron and using it can cause problems that surface later in life

hawker1986
Hey guys, Just wanted to update, the AA man had a look and the only thing was that the front pads have only got about 6000 miles of wear left on them, not a big deal to me so we went ahead and have picked up the car, were both well chuffed and grateful for all the useful input from here. Just need to get onto these dozy NMR people to sort it out. Will get up some pics once weather and time allow Cheers, Hawker
