taffyjason
I recently tried to replace my Head Unit but failed due to wrong parts, so reinstalled the OEM unit. Now when the ignition is on, there's a constant low level hiss through the speakers even when the head unit isnt on. But worse than that, everytime i get out of the car after a few mins driving, i always get a nasty static shock as soon as i ground myself and then tough the metalwork on the car...bloody hurts too! Do you think these are both related? somehow the head unit is now putting a current through the body?
Zugara
Stop wearing nylon pants, I always found closing the door via the glass works well....

Zugara
Are you wearing different shoes than you have done before?
taffyjason
ive tried three different pairs, trainers, leather shoes, and my uniform boots, happens in everything, very annoying, i have started closing the door with my leg as its not as sore on the knee when you get zapped lol
HassanZ
I've had this issue for the past few years with several cars and obviously different clothes/shoes...
taffyjason
but it started almost immediately after i messed with the head unit, i must have done something in there, as i havent had a single static shock til, then, i havent any more variety of clothing to try! im not going naked lol
leodspider
Just me sure you in-zap itself before you put petrol in. Static shock can ignite flames

bronzee
One of the things you can do to eliminate static electricity in your body is walk barefoot on sand. Strange but it works.
Voodoo Vix
There seems to be an earth strap (short one) by the exhaust's back box (at least it seems to act like one). I was always getting shocked but when we changed the exhaust and cleaned the strap - no more shocks (either that or big coincidence)
