Buckaroo Banzai
went to the bike show at the weekend at the Eurexpo exhibition centre, Lyon. (for those that are interested in bikes) http://www.salondu2roues.com/
Buckaroo Banzai
the show had all kinds on display and something of interest for everyone. All the mainstream manufacturers had all their latest ranges of bikes, scooters and quads but there were also specialist builders for choppers and bespoke one offs to the customers requirements. there was also a display arena with a bunch of young lads doing the impossible on BMX bikes, very impressive..! I tried to grab a few pics but I couldnt keep up with them.. one of the handful of bikes to have ever been built with a wobbly triangle engine. The Suzuki RE5. I remember them well and they were only ever destined to be garage ornaments and display bikes at shows. Some of the bikes that helped to make my youth complete, particularly the Kawasaki triples. I've had an H1 500, S3 400 AND A KH 250 but not in that order.. also had a Yamaha YDS7 250 and a YR5 350, a Suzuki T500 and also a couple of Italians a Gilera 150 Arcore and a Bennelli 250 2C...........Some of you may remember some of those..? Buckaroo Banzai
This little Suzuki 125 stinger was like new and I always wanted one but never did.
Buckaroo Banzai
This was my favorite bike of the show. it looks like it could be a pig to ride and not the most comfortable. But it had a clever front swinging arm and hub centre steering setup controlled by rods connected to the handlebars, very trick. its both simple and complex at the same time.. Buckaroo Banzai
The few pics of the lads on the bikes that I managed to snap. these guys were fearless.
Buckaroo Banzai
another unusual work of art, looks like it should have been in a movie but not sure which movie..? Rocketeer..? Batman..? you decide..
Buckaroo Banzai
and a very nice slammed pickup with a nice paint job, the body was matt silver but the cab and roof was high gloss metallic black with a silver shattered glass pattern air brushed on the roof, very nice. Southernspeed
My neighbour had an RE5 back in the 70's, he was for ever pushing it back home! Love the Kawa triples and the kettle, fond memories ! I'd happily have them (all on that stand apart from the RE5!) in my garage now but they are fetching crazy money now. Great photos, thanks for sharing. (scuttles off to check ebay and also wishes he hadn't sold all his bikes through the years!!)
bronzee
That bright metallic tube bike is very cool, very aesthetically pleasing.
