DoogyRev
I was a little bored this evening sooooo.....I thought I would play a little game I have searched on LinkedIn for my registered name, send and invitation to all the people with the same registered name and see who adds you to their network If your name is John Doe, you can only add John's, not Jon's or Jonathan's Already had 3 people accept.... DoogyRev
Good to see you are putting LinkedIn to good use Jim Its amusing me, I am going to message every "Jim" that accepts and urge them to add every other 'Jim". Just imaging how the ones left out will be feeling ..............

HaydnH
Well that didn't take long, I appear to be the only person with my name on LinkedIn or Facebook! God I hope no debt collectors ever need to find me.
rabbitstew
Im on Linkedin but dont really use it much these days. Theres some good groups on there if you want to network with people in certain industries, and its a good way to get possible sales leads etc... In the main recruitment agencies seem to use it the most I think for trying to poach people for jobs.
Chris`I
Its quite annoying now that they've made it a lot more agency/job hunter focused. Used to be quite closed loop so was really good because if you saw people were connected to someone you work with, you could assume they thought they were very good at their job. But now its just a free for all with agencies using it to harras people to get a new job. I still use it as the work I am in is very niche and we have a close network of people on there, which is good if I ever need to hire a contractor as it makes them easy to find without having to involve agencies. docwra
Yeah, I loved it when it first came up but now its like a Failbook clone, where everyone accepts everyone and thats diluted a lot of the attraction. Ironically, the influx of recruiters and agents clogging the whole thing up is one of the things thats put me off it ........ although as a recruiter, weve made some good contacts though it
Chris`I
Wouldnt mind good agents that get invited by other users, as generally to get invited to it you'd have to be a good recruiter. They would have a general understanding of whatever industry they were recruiting for and offer genuine good opportunites. Now every man and his dog is on there though, and you can pay to upgraded accounts where you can access pretty much all of someones details. Means agencies with more money than sense can harras people something silly. With the new searching capabilities I swear some recruiters sit on JobServe looking at jobs and sticking the skills in LinkedIn to get a list of "candidates" I've even been contacted on there for roles that I am already in, and also sent CVs of people I work with that I know for a fact arent interested in moving on
EH 370z
I agree with everything said, it’s quite funny now that over the last couple of months my industry seems to have switched on to it because everyone is fed up and wants a new job! On the plus side though this is how I got the job in Canada which was something I have wanted to do all my adult life (and failed at) until this came along, so for that reason alone it gets my thumbs up (there you go) That said I feel it could be so much better if better organised on the page and possible an industry forum type part, added so hopefully company directors may look at and alter the opinions of their work ethic etc.

I then call up with a proven track record, sometimes even a direct recommendation and I get told that "agencies are a waste of time and dont know what they are talking about"
