Rainman
Hi Guys, Anyone using an Alipine INA-W910R as a replacement for the Bose system? My GT doesn't have satnav so I thought I'd replace the double-din unit for one of these. Phil
Southernspeed
I use the iXA-W407BT which is a great unit BUT if you're going to use it to connect by bluetooth to an iPhone (not sure about other phones) you HAVE to run a separate constant live instead of using the Bose loom constant live. OK, thanks for the heads up. Originally I was going do it myself but I've since decided in taking it into a well established ICE specialist for fitment as it seemed to me that there are a few pitfalls around incorporating it into the Bose system and if I'm paying them to do the job then it all becomes their problem and not mine. I've given them a clear set of expectations and they've quoted on that, so it's upto them to deliver. I really can't be doing with headaches in this department, I just need it to work. When it comes to engines, transmissions, suspension, etc, then that is more inside my comfort zone, but when it comes to mucking about with removing trims and running new wires and electrics ... it leaves me cold. It's not that I can't do it, it's just that I don't enjoy pulling my interiors apart. Phil
spursmaddave
If I.C.E. and electronics are not your thing then best to take it to an expert, there are many many threads on here about the pitfalls of doing it yourself Having said that I have fitted 2, and a sub, and hardwired a satnav and motorised my cubby and I am quite frankly a complete plank so if I can do it there is hope for anyone Alpine HU are a nice bit of kit, and I am sure one of the 'imprint' crowd will be along very shortly

If you get ten minutes spare perhaps you could explain, in non techno form!, what exactly the Imprint thing does and it's advantage. I've been told basically it's a self set up sound system but know no more.
un1eash
Heres a nice flash site that explains all.. http://www.alpine-europe.com/imprint/ Its basically like the Audyssey auto setup you get on AV Amps but for your car. Worked wonders in my Z4 and 350Z espcially with the bass quality. I even ran it for a couple days using the bose speakers and it made even them sound good. Can it achieve better quality sound than just sitting there 'fiddling' for a while?
un1eash
On my headunit the 9886 connecting the processor opened up more options and features and yes you could play around with it to achieve the same results, the 9887 i believe had all the options and features out the box. Even then i think you'd still need some kind of meter to get the settings as good as the auto setup does which requires an Audyssey mic and the supplied computer software. I played around with my setup for ages in the Z4 and i just wasnt happy, i couldnt get it sounding right and then my other half brought me the procesor as a present and it was night and day difference. I was showing ikarus who has an awesome JL install on here the difference it made at one of the car shows.

Rainman
Well I got this unit installed at the weekend. Very happy with the result and as for functionality there is very little this thing can't do. The iPhone integration is particularly good, which was pretty high on my list of requirements. It's installed through the existing Bose amp and speakers as a short-term measure and whilst the sound is ok it's definately missing something. I'm going to be looking at amp/speaker options in the next couple of weeks and probably going to be sticking with the Alpine brand ... unless anyone else has some other recommendations? Phil The 407 I use is great with the iPhone too now but freaks out if I try to use voice dial Personally I'd stick with Alpine for the amp etc. Partly because I like their products, partly because they'll know what works best with their different components and you've more chance of fixing any issues quickly than speaking to 2 or 3 different companies. un1eash
Nothing wrong with Alpine Speakers and Amps, their PDX amps are very nice aswell and along with some Type R/X speakers you'll have a really nice system.
