Chesterfield
Tell me about it. Ive got the dreaded ABS unit failure on the Seat as well. Just had a conversation with their customer service team and it seems there may not be any "goodwill" on Seats part because there isnt full Seat service history with the vehicle... (thats because on the first service of the TWO new seats we bought from them, they ripped us off by charging more for the exact same part numbers to make the different cars meet their "menu" price system even though they had the very same engine... ) Tracy wants shut of the Altea anyway as the ride is too harsh. I know its a £1600 fix on the Altea for the ABS unit to be replaced, so if there isnt any good will, if I can get more than what I think the car is worth less the £1600 I know its going to take to fix, then Ill trade it in. I was looking at the Juke offers posted by EH 370. Its just money I wasnt planning on spending just yet. This year has got off to a cracking start

rabbitstew
Its build quality issues like this which put me off getting a Range Rover. That and they seem common as muck these days. I didnt realise just how common they were until I posed the subject of getting a Range Rover with the missus a few weeks ago as I really like them, and she said "why do you want to get one of them, *everyone* has one of them". I disagreed with her and so every time we drive out anywhere now she keeps an eye out for them just to prove her point, and I hate to agree with her, but shes right! Just driving through places like Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire, it seems every other car is a Range Rover. Even around Coventry a few days back we actually saw about 10 in the space of 1 mile. All were black too! Has everyone won the lottery or something? Last time I looked Range Rovers werent exactly cheap cars! And the government reckons noone has any cash these days?! Chesterfield
Its not just me either. Checking my personal email this morning and I have an email asking me if my recent visit to Jaguar in Thames Ditton was a satisfactiry experience. It appears that they have not updated the email address of the owner of the Jaguar I traded in. The new owner must be having just as much joy with the car as I had. Stew
My Dad had issues with his Range Rover so sold it before it ran out of warranty. It had the droopy suspension and a few minor electrical gremlins. I took my friends Range Rover to the dealership yesterday, 3rd time in 3 months for suspension fault. Other friends that have had sports have got rid due to faults too. I like JLR cars to look at and to be in. Unfortunately owning one is not an option for me as I would pull my hair out at the hassle of it all. Aberdeens biggest independant LR specialist is impossible to get hold of, I put the old freelander in there for coding a part to the ECU and when I went up it was chocoblock with 3-4 year old Rangies, Sports and Disco 3s. I mean 30+ in there!

rtbiscuit
sorry to see you're having another rough run of it. JLR aren't on their own though when it comes to faults with new cars, My wife bought a new IX35 from hyundai a while back it spent more time in the workshop becuase of a lock fault that they couldn't find, to the point that she got a new car. she then sold it and got a new volvo which so far has been faultless. i had issues with my 350z in warranty and nissan were usless. JLR aren't on their own with poor build quality and faults. as for my father in laws 2 freelanders he has had from new they have been trouble free and not an issue. Chesterfield
Out of the four marques owned presently, only one has never given me an issue, the Nissan. Im struggling to think of another marque we have owned that hasn't given me issues. Ford, vauxhall, MG, Nissan, Ferrari, Jaguar, Land Rover, Seat, Volkswagen, Mazda, Peugeot. Only the Nissan has never had something to be concerned about. Its got the clicky rear axle, but thats it.

rtbiscuit
my jag is no where near fault free, if something doesn't need to be fixed on it then i get suspicious something expensive is about to break. but all the stuff i've done so far has been low cost. and thats on an 11 year old jag. the only manufacturer i've had thats been fault free has been the honda. had 2 now and both have been perfect. not an ounce gone wrong, i think all i needed was a new fob battery and thats it. Pug, nissan, toyota, rover, all had big faults although toyota were very east to deal with. as for my wifes cars the VW and the Volvo have been spotless, but her hyundai, and her mums and my dads have been crap. and so was her toyota. there are very few i think in the industry who get it right. and some are worse than others. but have to say Volvo and VW and honda have been brilliant,

ChrisB
Japanese have always been by far the best for our family - Nissan, Subaru, Mazdas and Hondas have been virtually faultless. Of the others, Alfa, Opel and Rover - all rusted to dust or fell to bits. The Rover was particularly funny in that it was a 827 Vitesse with a brilliant Honda 2.7V6 in it which never missed a beat. A bit tappety at 160K miles, but strong as an ox. The Rover side of that car on the other hand was complete trash. Bits broke, paint peeled, like the car decayed daily. Chris`I
Funny to see Alfa get a mention as it was only a week ago our Alfa was already in the shop To be fair to Alfa, it was a dodgy turbo gasket which they swapped out in under 2 days and while it was in we had a newer and higher spec car as a replacement while they did it. They are very communicative too, explained to me and the missus exactly what they had done and why. Much better than the other places I've been before, bar Nissan in Slough, but thats because I harras them all the time. SEAT, Renault and Nissan in our local area I've had crappy experiences with. bronzee
The new owner must be having just as much joy with the car as I had. Have to feel sorry for the new owner, lol, or maybe you've sorted some of them.
