Craigb
I fitted the skunk 2 plenum spacer today, now i tried to fit the strut brace back on, and when i spaced the strut brace on it was catching on the bonnet when closing, Just wondered how some people on here had managed to run the spacer with the spacer on? Also if they didn't which aftermarket strut brace do i need to get? obviously one thats thinner than the standard one? I mean the skunk 2 fitting instructions said you cannot run the brace and I just wondered if its safe running the car without one. Its been put there for a reason by nissan and i will lose some handling performance, Any ideas? Cheers
HaydnH
I'd have thought the fast would be quicker and more enjoyable with the strut brace rather than a plenum spacer, however, instead of trying to find a strut brace that fits, a 07+ bonnet (with bulge) *might* allow it to fit. Craigb
Well i just can't believe a performance product requires sacrificing another product to aid the performance
coldel
I fitted a motordyne one, stuck the supplied spacers under the strut brace and all closed fine, the skunk should have been the same 5/16s size i would have thought?

The skunk2 is 5/8's. Dont know what that is in cm's lol. But some people say its a tight fit with the bar. The problem isnt spacing it from the plenum but from hitting the bonnet. coldel
Sounds like a job for a new strut bar then...
Dblock
where is it hitting? You might be able to cut a little bit of the bonnet away
Dblock
where is it hitting? You might be able to cut a little bit of the bonnet away Hmm after a lil diggin, some people say it can be fitted but you need spacers. But I dont see how that helps you if your is hitting the bonnet. Can I ask why you got the skunk2? It doesnt get great reviews in the US. Not sure what material the strut brace spaces are, it would seem that the spacers are giving sufficient clearence to clear the plenum but then fouling the bonnet. Measure the clearence between the plenum and the underside of the strut brace, then place a peice of plastercine or clay bar on top of the brace close the bonnet, reopen the bonnet on measure how much the plastercine had been depressed. If the plastercine has been depressed greater than the distance allowed between the brase and the plenum then your stuffed. If not you may be able to shave something off the spacers. 5/16 is roughly 7.5 mm whereas 5/8 is double = to 15mm quite a difference imo
spursmaddave
Cut a hole in the bonnet and fit one of these bad boys....
Craigb
I think i will try the plastacene trick and may shave a little bit of the bonnet away, but is there any disadvantages on not running a strut brace? as the skunk 2 fitting instructions says you remove the strut brace when fitting this spacer and u don't require it
Dblock
The skunk2 guy says you can run spacers I don't see how it works. With no strut brace you will lose front end sharpness. How much I don't know.
ZMANALEX
Best to run with a strut brace. Find out where the interference is and "modify" the bonnet if poss. If that does not work, then a HR bonnet will be required. In stock and good to go same next day if you wish to go that route. I personally would ditch the Skunk and fit an ISO Thermal ModerDyne 5/16" Alex.
Craigb
Im going to have ago fettling the bonnet i only think the interference is in a small spot
