L4V15
Hi everybody. Does anybody know how you can tell whether a 350z Nismo bodykit is genuine or fake? Should it have a part number or nismo or anything like that stamped on it anywhere? Just a little suspicious as to whether this one is real. The seller of the car tried to tell me that it was factory fitted but I'm not convinced. Any info would be great. Thanks Steve
Fuse
I'm pretty sure genuine ones have a Nismo sticker somewhere on the inside. Not sure if this is still visible once it's been fitted though?

L4V15
OMG, are they actually fibreglass? Do they chip and crack very easily because my front bumpers a bit buggered. Just looks abit crap and cheap but maybe it is genuine? Thanks, il have a look at those links now.
Fuse
Yep, I believe the genuine Nismo kits are fibreglass.
Lexx
Due to the unique design of the Zed front (ie - blunt as ***k), they are hugely succeptable to stone chips (OEM and aftermarket bumpers alike). IIRC your car is a 54 plate, so thats 7 years of driving on brits crappy roads getting peppered by stones.
sparky370z
Yup fibreglass, chips and cracks! Got the genuine spoiler and skirts but gonna get a replica front coz its made from GRP. Bit more flexible/forgiving.
L4V15
Hmm, interesting. Yea just had a look and compared it to the one in the photo and it does actually look genuine. And like you say it's 7 years old and now covered 105,000 miles so yea fair play I guess. The tips of the spoiler seem to be pretty much touching the bodywork of the car but with little black pads in-between. Does this also sound right? Fuse
Yeah I think the genuine ones pretty much touch the bodywork, replica ones usually have more of a gap.

I believe the black pads were on the genuine spoiler, mine is a copy and has no pads but more clearance.
tprice
doing well for 105k!!
L4V15
Yea it's doing very well. Lol, are they not supposed to go onto high mileage or something? All the jap cars I've had in the past have handled high mileage easily way beyond 105000. I didnt even think anything of it to be honest, guessed it would be fine. Not bad, seems that it is a genuine full Nismo kit then. Managed to do a clean swap for this car for my 2001 X reg Audi s3 with 119,000 miles on the clock. Had the 350z fully serviced and checked out inside and out. Sorted all the niggley faults and seems that it's a decent example. Over the moon with it, had on around a month now. spursmaddave
Mines just slipped past 100,000 and still going strong There don't seem to be many high mileage Zed's about but then they are hardly the most practical car are they... Most are weekend toys or 2nd cars not too many daily drivers
L4V15
Very true. Mine will only be a weekend toy as I use the van during the week so hopefully the mileage will start coming closer to average again.
L4V15
Or at least won't go any further above average anyway
spursmaddave
Well I don't do average
Sarnie
Do you have headlight washers?
L4V15
I do indeed
spursmaddave
Not sure all the copies have headlight washer holes... Which can be an MOT fail can't it?
L4V15
Yea if you have Xenon headlamps you need the washers for MOT. There are some pics of the kit on my garage link. Pretty confident its genuine now though after what you lot have shown me and said.
Lexx
Most garages in my experience dont know when a car has/hasn't got Xenon's fitted. Thus I have never had a car fail an MOT for lack of headlight washers.
